Roadworthy Rescues tonight
Derek Bieri is working on a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain on MotorTrend TV (8:00 PM Central). May be interesting.
Recording it.
Cool, thanks for the heads up. This is one of the better Motor Trend shows.
79 TA was good too , and the Cammer Lemans.
Never seen it but I’ll watch it because it has a Pontiac on it.
Was it the issue sparkolators, fuel maken happener or the lightning sticks?
No, it was intake gasket in a bottle
Recorded the 55 Pontiac last night, check it out today. |
Roadworthy Rescues is one of my favorite car related shows. Derek comes across as a very calm cool likeable dude. The show seems genuine without all the fluff, fake drama, and BS that ruins most car related shows. I would like to hang out and have a beer with Derek and his brother.
the show is good, but not as good as his original "Vice Grip Garage - Will it drive xxx miles(?)" videos;
The high dollar thing really dilutes it for me; I like seeing the real world struggle, and low-buck ones. The 'Rot-bird' was astoundingly rusted... and to my utter disbelief, it made it!! |
Watched it - good episode - good show.
Missed it. My first car was 2 tone blue 55 Chieftain.
Just watched the recording. Fun show to watch. I think he spent more time with a screwchisel and a burr removing the belt that was fused to the pulley than he did on the engine itself!
You gotta record everything on tat channel, commercials are real bad
Too bad I put tonight in the title. But,
This coming Wednesday, 8:00 Central on MotorTrend, will be showcasing a GTO. '70, I believe. |
I love the show. He's hilarious. Just watched the gasser episode with Freiburger. Was good. Only thing was them saying they had to weld up the "peg leg" rear end. Then watch them welding up a posi. Maybe the posi was trash. Very minor detail. Usually no BS.

Apparently there has to be some credible intel on all these cars that ensures they were running/driving when parked. I doubt any of us could just walk up on an old car sitting in the weeds and get it cranked, running, and driving. All I’ve ever seen were parked because the engine was blown, transmission was burnt up, and-or a host of severe electrical, suspension, chassis, or driveline failures.

I missed the cheiftain some how, it didn’t record

Here's a dad, and son rescuing a 2 owner 55 Pontiac picked up in San Antonio Texas, driving it back to Tucson Arizona. This kid, and his dad are constantly doing this on You Tube, looks believable too. Their main focus is Cummins/dodge diesels, but he works and flips a little of everything.
Be prepared, it a little over 2 hours long, but well documented as they go to Texas, get the car ready drive back home, and their journey back to Tucson. The car is quite well preserved being it was sold new in Texas, and lived it's life there. It's a 2 tone 4 door sedan. The car is very similar to a 56 I bought as a young teenager decades ago, but mine was even more rare, 3 on the tree, 317. Rochester 4 bbl..........:) Link..........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvs77J2WXzs He also makes a reference to the true lineage of the Pontiac V8 "Stratostreak" Few people know that terminology, but it's the correct name given to the engine by Pontiac engineers. https://i.ibb.co/dkSt9kw/stratostreak-VC.jpg Picture of the Stratostreak T shirts I designed, and sold about 15 years ago. I still wear them today as I saved myself a few. https://i.ibb.co/r5n3x7j/stratoback1.jpg Anyway another saved, and drive home video with an ancient Pontiac Chieftain being saved. You don't have to worry about recording it, because it's already been done. |
Well, it must be Pontiac season on the Rescues. Tonight's episode was a '62 Bonneville.
I like Roadworthy Rescues also. Some of his 'ideas' are inventive and practical. I watched him recover that 70 GTO. Water in cylinders, he added oh,oh,(mind goes into neutral) Marvel Mystery Oil and got ,pistons, cylinder loosened. I still cant believe that. Drove car around. There might be more to his inventiveness than what's shown still like him.

looking forward to seeing the episode with the '62 DarkSider...
Watched the episode of 79 TA and the 62 Bonneville not finished but he took it to Woodward Ave.
The '62 Barneville episode was kinda disappointing. He didn't get much done. He says it'll be back though. So... Love the show however.
The 35 Chevy was a good one and the 442 was good
I like the show in general and enjoy Derek's take. I like the episodes where Derek just gets the car back on the road more than the episodes where they're making dirt track cars and that type of thing. I'm not as interested in the "guest appearances" from other Motor Trend shows.
It's a show with some of it for effect. Is Derek really just going to take a good lightning cube and literally throw it into the engine compartment before hooking it up? Is he really going to try to crank the engine before even checking to see if it has oil, or if there's a bunch of water in the crankcase or the cylinders? Is he really going to drive the car any distance without replacing fuel hoses or brake hoses, etc.? The '70 GTO episode had some of that type of thing. As Simple Man pointed out, he smashed out the hood tach, but it was broken. Would it have been worth saving? The Barneville episode was good but it was clear he was never getting that back on the road in five days. Hopefully we'll see it again. |
I like Derek, but his YT videos have gotten too damn long for me to watch. The Discovery Channel videos are a bit shorter. Will have to check them out.
Waiting for the 55 Pontiac to record, havent seen it on my recording list.
The Barnaville episode was filmed in Michigan, he trailered the car up and down Woodward, Hitting cars and coffee multiple times.
Part Two of the Barneville episode aired a few days ago. Another good episode with a lot of wrenching. It was nice of Derek to give the car back to the daughter of the owner who originally set out to build it, after getting it back on the road.
Tip - episodes of Motor Trend shows are available at go.discovery.com and it's possible to sign on through a lot of cable TV providers. There are lots of shows that aren't carried on the Motor Trend channel right now. |
Don't know why a lot of shows didn't air this week. Here is Season 3, Episode 11...

I had 4 record, The Chevy gasser was a good one, actually fixing up the big tractor was entertaining.
Part 2 of the Barnaville was good. Deff saved that car. |
