Been looking for a CR500 and one of my Pontiac buddies says , man I just sold one cheap. So I though maybe I should post and ask if anyone has anything
And since it’s been slow around here anyway see who is into riding and collecting big bore bikes. Because we live near eachother and I never knew he rode and collected these bikes.

Our new place has 31 acres of open rolling topography, with some glade type woods, all dirt, not a rock on the place. Can't wait to get a dirt bike.
Wish I was 30 year younger I'd be putting the excavator and skid steer to work making a "senior" MX course.

My arms hurt just thinking about holding onto the handlebars on one of these again.

A lot of fun in wide open spaces like sand dunes and desert riding but was a handful for me when riding in the woods.

I rode them in the woods in Connecticut and I also rode them out in glamis sand dunes. Had. Blast both places.

Is KTM is in bankruptcy and you can buy a
450 or 500 KTm a couple years old for the price of a CR500

And testing has shown the ; strikers will out run them lap to llap but I’m interested in it for the nostalgia.

KTM would have been my bike of choice, but the recent problems have me reconsidering. Plus the nearest KTM dealer is over 100 miles away.

Evidently they still have the money to run a MotoGP team.

Yeah the bikes have come way way down. I’m still a big bore CR500 guy but man an almost brand new 450 or 500 for old bike money is tempting. I’ve actually never ridden one of these new bikes they have traction control and everything.

When I was. A kid my buddies all. Had broken KTMs in the shed w no dealers to get parts from but w the internet. Maybe differnt even if it goes bad.

I rode small bore SuperMoto for a few years and the KTMs were very popular. But in my mind, it's always sound of big two stroke that defines a dirt bike, and Roger Decoster was king.

Me (176) on a Honda 150 tricked out for SuperMoto on a little track in Maine. And yes, that little kid (44) is going to pass me and win. We were racing for a nice set of gloves too. He ended up road racing in the US and Europe.

Fastest old dirt bike I ever rode was a Yamaha yz 490. It didn’t know the word subtle. It didn’t make a good trail bike. I remember trying a cr80 back in high school and remembering how snappy that little 80 was for its size.

All the old dirt bikes are worth big bucks now, according to the people selling them. After watching A1, I decided I need a bike. I wanted an 80's CR or KX250, fixer upper. There was a few around but this or that kept them from being the "one", plus it seems the owners are either kids or someone without a very good reputation. A guy at work said he'd give me a good deal on his KTM 450, which is way way more power than I could effectively use, but the deal was too good to pass up.

For some reason people are dumping those KTMs especially 450s cheap . I know the company is in bankruptcy and they are worried about support but the 450s especially are bargains big time right now

Everything will be cheap now that I'm not looking! KTM will dump Gas Gas and Husky if it gets really bad, but parts will be available for a long time.

God, I love old two strokers. Had multiple throughout the years. I rode a CR500 once and owned a 250, you didn't need the front wheel on either. I found a really nice 92 CR500 about 5 years ago friend of a friend. He wanted $7,000. In the end I couldn't justify it. Good luck in your search!

I sold all my bikes around Covid but was riding KTM’s in the end, with a service manual they are an absolute pleasure to work on vs other bikes. My favorite vintage bike was a ‘94 KDX that I had for a little bit, cream puff bike with low low hours.

First motorcycle was a Bultaco, left kick right shift. Loved that thing.

I could never adjust to right shift - left brake foot controls ... crash & burn

i did alot of the crash and burn, the move to the Suzuki was interseting!

CR480 crash did someone call for that. ….
My cousin with a wind up camera ( disposable) caught me in the whoops , off the jump, 100+ ft out landing, bottoming it , crash w Wide open throttle still cranking away the thought it was gonna blow up. The ICe pack and resulting damage. ��. My wife came home found me bleeding on the couch and thought I was dead

That was 4 th gear wide open that launch. And a 480 only has 4 gears!

On the bounce from bottoming my leg went behind caught the fire and went into the tire and swing arm and it just ground a hole in my leg.

God I loved that bike

It’s literally the exact moment my leg came off the right peg and caught the ground kicking it backwards. Great timing on these shots. He Shoulda been a photographer I guess. Had he had an I phone back then maybe we’d have gotten the swing arm/ tire grinder in the picture.

I still have a 1999 YZ125 Yamaha I bought in 2001 .
Screaming demon with incredible suspension for big jumps.
But can only tiptoe touch ground on one side. It's like riding a horse.

At 61 I'm looking for something I can touch flat footed on both sides for some trail riding.
And medium level mayhem.
Would love to have a 72-73 Yamaha Enduro in excellent condition but I think I would be too rough on it.
They were beautiful bikes.

I'm up to 150 lbs ,,,, but really need to lose 5 or 10.
The only modern bikes I can flat-foot are big-wheel minicycles with 19"/16" wheel combos.

At that weight you should be a pilot. Biggest problem w air planes is weight I struggle with it in my vans RV6 always at gross weight of the airplane

It’s a construction company they stock pile materials there. Not a place to ride unfortunately those are few and far between around here these day

I forgot to comment on Knievel's CR500 , but that seemed like a fair price .
Hopefully it goes to a good museum exhibit.

I couldn’t believe it went that high it wasn’t evel kinevel it was Robby . Not that he didn’t do great jumps but his dad was really the man

Riding one of these is on my bucket list, but it is dead last on the list. Not because I want to ride one less than I want to do the other things on my bucket list, but because I assume once I get on one of these things I won't live long enough to address any remaining items on the list.

I have never own a "dial - a - wheelie" dirt bike, and have always wanted one.

I have street bikes that would, but they are bit insane.

I grew up on dirt bikes, First one was a 74 honda Elsinore. Gave up riding when I hit 45. Now at 62 thinking about getting back into it. Grandson just bought one of the electric bikes. It has settings 10,20,30,40,50,60 and 80 hp. I rode it at 50 and that was impressive. He said at 80 it is just about unrideable. Just can't get into no sound, all you hear is the chain. no clutch or shifter.
He also bought a 350 husky 4 stoke. I love that bike. Electric start is great. Traction control and 3 different tunes. I think he said it has 48hp.
I had to laugh when he said wow you can still ride.
