Why does it seem worse to lose a pet than a family member?? Had to do the dirty deed of putting my Family pet Dog down last week, not easy. She was 16 1/2 years old and I knew this was coming, But this seems to be worse than loosing my Brother a few years ago. Been a few days now but still struggling with this. Had a new granddaughter
a week before so maybe she was making space for new member. Been a good week then **** goes sideways.

Sorry for your loss. Always they have a special place in our hearts. If the love they show was instilled by the creator which I believe it was,the creator has everything planned through love.

Pets are family members, sorry for your loss.

I have a little dog that’ll turn 17 in July.

So sorry. They have a huge impact on your life. Having to bring them in to have the procedure is one of the toughest things in life to do, at least it was for me. A year and a half ago for me. Still have moments of grief. It gets better, but everyone is different as far as how long it takes. I haven't had the will to replace my buddy, and at my age probably won't have another. Shadow was the best. Go ahead and grieve. It's natural and okay.

I read an article once that said losing a pet sometimes seems harder than a family member because they rely on the owner so much more.... My theory is God gives them shorter lives so we get to love more of them.

So sorry for the loss of your precious little girl. A little more than 2 years ago we lost our precious little boy Harley. I think about him and the other 3 dogs we have lost often. They were all great guys. It really is a hard thing to loose a great friend. Our Harley and your sweet little girl look so much alike they could be brother and sister. Remember the good times. She will always be in your heart.

In 2007 I had to have our 17 year old Border Collie put down due to health problems. One morning in 2010 I found my other Border Collie dead on the shoulder of the road in front my house. A thunderstorm the night before must have spooked it and it went over our back yard fence and into the road. A vehicle took her out.
In 2017 I found our 15 year old yellow Lab dead in her dog house. 2018 I found my father dead in his home.
Losing my dogs was tough, losing my Dad was no comparison. YMMV. Sorry for your loss.

If you look up the definition of unconditional love in the dictionary, there is a picture of someone’s dog. Sorry for your loss buddy. I know your pain.

One of the "family" members was buried a little over a week ago. It's a lot tougher on me when you go thru the "putting them down". RIP to all the "family" members who've passed.

They are family. They love unconditionally. It's never easy to let them go.

Sorry for your loss. Back in mid February, we had to put down our 17 1/2 yr old cat Carley. Why is it, that chore seems to fall on guys, that just sucks.. 2015 I put down our Border Collie Max (aren't they all Max?). Carley & Max were both 2007 models, she way out lived him; both were the best pets you could have.

Yep it sucks I'm very sorry. I lost my female pit bull on 12-31-24. I knew it would be bad but I still think about her every day.

We had to put down our Black Chihuahua, 'Ninja', two months ago. Still miss her.

Congratulations on the granddaughter! Before you know it she’ll be wearing makeup and rolling her eyes at everything you say. Had to put my Abbey Girl down in 1994; inflammatory arthritis. It hasn’t gotten any easier over the last thirty-one years putting another five dogs down ( Tygger, Bumpus, Maggie, Clement and Sota) nor will it be any less torturous when our latest four have to be put down. I was once asked as question :” If you could have a superpower what would it be?” My answer: make my dogs live as long as I do.

I had a psychologist tell me that the pain you feel at the loss of someone is proportional to the amount of time you spent with them on a daily basis. Applies to pets too. The brain is wired that way, you miss the most, whatever played the bigger part in your life on day to day basis.

I'm terrible about it, I start worrying the first day I get a new dog about the inevitable end.

Always reminds me of Mr. Bojangles.

Thanks for all the Kind words, and support. Trying to clean up her beds and toys and such, gets to me but I know She was worth it.
Won't be getting another Pet for a while. Maybe in the future once we settled down more. Retired so want to do some traveling
and don't want to be tied down with another Pet yet. No babysitter close by. Again Thanks for all the support and kind words. Summer is coming so
gonna be on the road soon.

I’m sorry for your loss. I also know exactly how you feel about not getting another pet for a while. My wife and I have had dog/dogs for all 48 years of our marriage. My current two are 16-1/2 & 15. We have not been able to travel together for the last four years due to their health issues. The older one is a character and has stolen our hearts. We will be devastated when she’s gone but will be left with a lifetime of memories.

Been a week now and still feel like I am needing to let Her out or feed her. Just really weird still. Just got her ashes back so that set us off again.
She will be sitting beside our 1st dog till we decide where to put them. 1st one was 16 as well, she was taken out by some weird neighbour that thought
he had rights to shoot Dogs with a Pellet Gun if they came near his yard. She had pellet stuck between 2 ribs. To old for surgery so we kept her happy
with drugs and passed in her sleep. Have alway had people to watch them, but everyone is getting older.

Menduner (pronounced “Mender”) passed away quietly last night around 10 PM in his sleep, on Good Friday. He was 16 years and 9 months old. He was born in China and my wife brought him here on New Year’s Day 2014.

It’s been a bit of a tough day for my wife and I.

Goodbye my dear little friend. :(

Aww man! What a cutie! So sorry. Only consolation is that you didn't have to take him to the vet for his final moment. You were fortunate to have him for so many years, but still, losing him doesn't make it any easier. May God comfort you.

Sorry to hear that bman, they are more than Family it seems. Looks to have been same size as Mocha. Take care.

So sorry for your loss, you're not alone, my dog of 16 years died 10 years ago, still think of him way too much. I'd like to get another one someday, just haven't.

We've had standard poodles for more than 25 years and have learned a couple of things that have made a difference.

1) You might think you could never get another after losing one, but if you're a dog person, another dog is the only thing that will buffer the loss. So don't hesitate to get another.

2) Having two dogs is much better than having one. They keep each other company when you're not around and can be a blast to watch as their own relationship develops. And they'll be better socialized to be around other dogs.

We just picked up our 5th two weeks ago, "Chanel Marie", to join "Kai Anne Brianna" after losing the white one - "Sadie Diamond Lil".

So sorry for your loss. The love they show is amazing. God will unit us with them.
My little, not so now cat showed up the day I was leaving for Norwalk 20 + years ago. He is a tuxedo black and white. The wife called me at Norwalk saying the cat came into the house. She named him Sneakers. He is my shadow. He'll be the last living contact with my departed wife.

We've all been there with all our different pets and loved ones you know it's the fond memories that make it all worthwhile. Yes the grieving and crying sometimes. The crying releases toxins (I didn't know this ck it out)from our bodies and gives us a good feeling afterwards.

Very sorry to hear that b-man. I always enjoyed seeing him in your car pics so I'll miss that. Losing them is very hard. My thoughts are with you.

I haven't replied to this post because I hurt thinking about the pets everyone here has lost and I dread the day we lose our Yorkie, Charlie. He is ten now and I hope he lives at least 5 more years in good health. When the time does come, he will be cremated and his remains will be buried with my wife when she passes.

when you die and go to heaven, all your old dogs will be there to meet you at the Pearly Gates

Some folks believe a new dog has a job, to help with the pain of loosing the previous human owner.....
When you think you have trained your dog, You have been trained by them as well...
