Very nice, great collection ..... Years ago my father-in-law sold his 442 convertible and planned on buying a GS ..... He ended up with a 53 Buick , which we called a 53 GS

I was thinking of the GSX, this is just a GS I guess?

I had a 70 GSX but don't think it was a Stage 1. (didn't know the codes etc for them)

:)

My first college roommate at GMI lucked into a 1971 GS455 Stage-I as the second owner. A retired gentleman had gone into his local Buick dealer and asked for a car he could tow an Airstream trailer with. So he got sold a Stage-I with a class III hitch receiver! The dealer was not about to lose a sale. The OO traded the car in three years later, never having bought the trailer, so my roommate got a great price on it since the dealer really didn't want a GS with a hitch sitting on his lot. That car was scary fast because the tires were so undersized for the amount of power it had.

Congrats on having something so special!

Really nice car! A 70 GSX is on my list. Just have to finish other projects first.

Awesome collection. Love the Buick GSes and Olds 442s. Stage 1 to boot!

unruhjonny 10-22-2025 01:23 PM

very cool!

I am thinking of the (?)Musclecar Review areticle about the 1970-1971-1972 Buick GSX, and how production dropped off exponentially after 1970;
I am guessing that the Stage1 cars are quite rare - do you have production numbers broken down by transmission for 1972? (or other years)

There used to be a 1973(?) Regal Stage1 car that parked on the street in Lethbridge...

slgenge 03-04-2026 05:35 PM

only 38 sold in Canada, only 57 Flame orange. Only 728 made. 101 4 speeds the rest Turbo 400. only 428 with turbo 400 and console. only 271 with the N-25 rear bumper exhaust

trishieldchief 03-04-2026 06:21 PM

Buick built 728 1972 GS Stage 1 hardtops and 81 GS Stage 1 convertibles.

These #' are for both Auto and 4 speed cars combined.

Yes, the N25 Thru the bumper exhaust option is super cool ,was only available in 1971 and 1972 approximately 40% of all GS cars built in those years were ordered with N25.

slgenge 03-04-2026 06:56 PM

Rich, nice collection of both Buicks and Pontiacs. I am in Alberta Canada and I have never seen a Canadian Sold 1972 Stage 1 ever. None in Alberta or Saskatchewan that have crossed my path
