Any Model Train Buffs out there? my HO setup
 

I'm going to start to get this running over the Winter. The one "cookie cutter" 4x8 part is the Atlas Plywood Summit Line that my Dad and I built in the late 60's. I've been adding to it over the years. Still has a LOOOOOONG way to go.

My oldest grandkids always hit the basement to see if I've worked on it and now that I'm retired, I can get it running. I want to give a section of the layout to each of them to design the landscape and such. Maybe teach them to make trees for me. LOL

When I was a kid I had an HO layout. Still think they’re cool. Looks like it’s going to be a great layout when it’s done. But when are they ever really done? Just like our cars.

Still have some HO slot cars, highly modified of course.
No train stuff.

I still have my N-scale stuff from the mid 70's & a few years back I got the bug, so I went to a train show, bought a couple of magazines & some track pieces, but after thinking about it for a few days.....It is impossible with my transport schedule. I would like to revisit it in a few more years, maybe by then I will have cut way back on work.

I've always thought train setups were cool. My parents brought me to a place when I was a kid that had a huge setup. It took up an entire building.

My Great Grandfather had trains. They seem big and heavy compared to newer stuff. They were given to me, but I haven't done anything with them. I think I'll build a shelf for them, and lay some of the track down to put them on.

It will NEVER be finished but I foresee it operational in the next year or so. I wanted to get them running and the switches working so the kids can play.

I need to switch to the new DCC type wiring which is already in the works. I'd like to convert at least one of my engines to DCC if I can

The CN and the New Haven were the original trains I had as a kid so they were bought in the 60's. I also have the Caboose for the New Haven

I will say that CN took a BEATING when I was a kid!! LOL It was a strong engine that could pull all the cars I had up the hills of the layout. Still works but needs some TLC

Great project!! wonderful to get the grand kids involved. I too have some HO bits and pieces in totes and N scale too, keep saying one of these winters and have started a couple times only to move and have to take apart what had been started.

This set up has been moved 3x over the years. I did have to replace the original 4x8 cookie cutter due to damage from a tank falling on it. All the track is from that original setup, but I lost all the scenery which sucked. I still have the plans from the Atlas book so I just made a new one. I have no idea where the long complex section came from. I saw it in a warehouse where I worked and they said to take it. I wish I could find the plans for it.

I'm happy with the way I was able integrate the 2 layouts just by modifying 2 switches. As for the open area, a lake is coming to mind. It can't be fixed to the other layout though, so I have to figure that out

That Canadian National unit is a Tyco Alco Century C430.

oh, those RED spots are not blood. LOL that is where a power feed to the track will go. I have to do one every 3' and even more where all the crossings are due to the small sections. I think I came up with 93 connections but that will probably change once I get to it.

Here is a scale Pontiac Dealership that is in my layout. (Both train and slot car) Marquee lights cycle.

That’s super cool. My dad is/was super into trains as well. He always had a layout in my bedroom as a kid, and he constantly took us to train shows.

We had to move him to a care facility when he got dementia but I have some of his old trains still in my closet. He perks up still when we bring any of the trains over.

My grandpa worked for the New York Railroad in the 1st half of the 20th century and I think that made my dad even more into trains.

I had a small HO layout when I was a kid. My uncle gave me his 1957 Lionel set several years ago. All of the cars still have the wrapping paper/boxes and several Plasticville buildings.

The Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club’s Holiday Open House is pulling back into Portland, and they are excited to show off their scale model of the Columbia Gorge area.

KOIN 6 News’ Kohr Harlan climbed aboard at the club’s North Portland locations to get an early look at the display.
Place is unbelievable.

Nice set up there,I'll be retiring soon and plan to setup my G scale outside. I have a porch attached to the garage and plan to start there then out to the back yard. good luck with your plans, don't think we are ever done when it comes to model trains!

My family are train people, grew up not a 1/4 mile from the Mantua Metals / Tyco plant in Woddbury Heights, NJ. During the 60's, we used to raid the dumpsters there for train parts. Came up with quite a bit of HO rolling stock that way. These days, while we still have the HO stuff, our attention has turned to Lionel pre & post war O & STD gauge. We set these up all over the living room at Christmas. As a Lionel train guy, I and my son are members of the Train Collectors Association (TCA). The TCA York PA train meets are something to see.

I lived in Woodbury for a very short time and know about that plant. I have my Dad's old Lionel set as well, doesn't run but looks cool when I set it up at Christmas
