Performance Axle

1 Attachment(s)
This car is listed on eBay right now. 1971 Formula 400, automatic, performance axle, and air conditioning? Anyone ever seen a Firebird with 3.73 gears and a/c? Also, the performance axle was only available as a positraction, so I would expect to see safe-t-track listed as a separate option, but it's not listed.

Didn't '71 Formula 400 auto's have 3.42's standard w/o AC...3.08's with AC? So, the performance gear would be back to 3.42 (with & without posi)? I may be wrong as I don't have any literature in front of me right now.

A 71 Formula with auto and a/c would have a 3.08 gear. The performance axle would be a 3.42 limited slip.

At one time I owned a 71 Formula with automatic and a/c and 3.42 gear. If my memory is right, the transmission code for the standard 3,08 was different from the tranny with 3.42s. I still have the tranny out of that car.

Dennis and Mike,

Thanks for explaining this. The only performance axle cars I've seen were all 3.73's, so I just assumed that was what the performance axle gear ratio was. Now I know better.
