1962 Pontiac Catalina Headers

I know at one time Mad-Dog Headers made the best set of aftermarket tube-headers, any help on getting that type of quality and from whom.

I am running a 421/d-port heads and a 4 speed trans

Since Mad Dog quit making them you are looking at custom made or finding someone selling their old ones. I have a buddy that is running a set in his 64 Catalina and the fitment took some adjusting and they hang LOW and angle down a lot in the rear. He often says in hindsight if he had it all to do again he would have gone with RARE long branch manifolds. My 63 has them and they certainly do fit nice.

If the first gen long branch fit 61-64 and they do, I would think first gen headers would fit?Anyone try them?Tom

I used Hedman long tubes for a D port 67-69 Firebird on my 63 Catalina and the passenger side fit so easy you can stand back and toss it into place ..LOL The only fitment issue I had was on driver side the #1 cylinder tube hit the crossmember and well since it was a drag car I just cut a V notch out of the cross member with sawzall and welded plate inside to box back in , the steering tie rod end stuff is real close to maybe rub a little with full turns and you might have to clock the clamp bolt different for some room but really it was just the one tube on #1.. mind you I am NOT using a old 64 and earlier trans or block. I am using a modern TH350 and a 455 block so a block mounted starter obviously. So fitment might be a issue with a early trans with bell starter

Call Mad Dog, they’ll give you the number to the guy that has the jigs. He made mine this year but I can’t find his number right now. Don’t be in a hurry though.

I have a set of new IA d-port headers for my ‘63 that I have not installed yet. Trouble is, I have round port E heads. I’ve been told that the place that made them for Dick can still make them in d port or round port.
