69-71 Judge lock tech and kits for sale

As many of you know I'm back part time at PY, and one of my duties is in our lock division.

With the increased value of the GTO Judges and desire for correctness, I thought it important to offer the following info and kits.

In the past we could use a specific code key for customers for an additional amount and recently we have discontinued that service for several reasons. One is the availability of certain components, and two, it caused problems with our production.

The purpose of this thread is to both educate the Judge owners (same as all Pontiac A bodies) on correct locks sets and to offer the members here correct lock sets that are different then the catalog listings. This will also save on dealing with a locksmith when purchasing individual components. We will keep this thread as a sticky and I will try to answer questions as time allows. Keep in mind I have 2 jobs and stay pretty busy at both. Direct questions can be addressed to me at pauls@performanceyears.com

The current lock sets offered by PY (and others) are replacements and a true NOS lock set has particular differences I will discuss. PY will offer correct kits, in different forms, to our members as inventory allows. We have a very limited supply of certain components, so kits will be on a limited supply basis.

1969 sets:

We have a good supply of original NOS 1969 ignition cylinders - both coded and uncoded. All 1969 GM cars use a square head "E" key and a oval or round "H" key. The E key was used for the ignition and doors locks. The H key is for the glove and trunk. GM repeated this code every 4 years. When new, the keys had knock outs with a 4 digit code. Some dealers "knocked" these out, some left them as is.
We have both red line and non red line E coded ignition cylinders. From my research, the most common one is the red line. Correct door locks in 69 have a small notch in the shutter where the key enters. These are no longer made and most replacement door locks have a perfectly shaped rectangle(no notch). A true original or NOS door lock will be factory crimped as well. The key codes are also stamped on the door lock case. We do not have any of these door locks. We can, however, use available kits and use the notch shutter for correctness. These kits use a 4 tab retainer that is not seen when installed. So looks wise they will appear NOS. We will offer correct style 69 door and ignition sets with NOS "E" keys (with knock outs and codes) for $60 a set. Our part number will be PY106B69C. If you want your correct code and we have it, the price will be $80.00 a set. If we do not, we can make the set but keys will not have knock out or code and we can not guarantee the key blanks will be NOS. The current E and H key blanks and NOS ones are nearly identical.
On the glove and trunks - we only have the reproduction glove inserts and trunk locks, but same as the doors - we can use the notched shutter and supply NOS coded "H" key blanks Price on those kits will be $60.00 or $80 for your code. part number will be PY197C69

1970

We do not have original or NOS 1970 ignition cylinders. 1970 GM cars use a square head "J" key and a oval or round "K" key. The J key was used for the ignition and doors locks. The K key is for the glove and trunk. GM repeated this code every 4 years. When new, the keys had knock outs with a 4 digit code. Some dealers "knocked" these out, some left them as is.
We have a reproduction ignition cylinder that is very close to a 1970 cylinder. I'll post pictures. Correct door locks in 70 have a small notch in the shutter where the key enters. We will offer correct style 70 door and ignition sets with NOS "J" keys (with knock outs and codes) for $60 a set. Our part number will be PY106B70C. If you want your correct code and we have it, the price will be $80.00 a set. If we do not, we can make the set but keys will not have knock out or code and we can not guarantee the key blanks will be NOS. The current J and K key blanks and NOS ones are nearly identical.
On the glove and trunks - we have NOS glove box locks and replacement trunk locks, but same as the doors - we can use the notched shutter and supply NOS coded "K" key blanks Price on those kits will be $60.00 or $80 for your code. Part number will be PY198C70

1971

We do not have original or NOS 1971 ignition cylinders. 1971 GM cars use a square head "A" key and a oval or round "B" key. The A key was used for the ignition and doors locks. The B key is for the glove and trunk. GM repeated this code every 4 years. When new, the keys had knock outs with a 4 digit code. Some dealers "knocked" these out, some left them as is.
We have a reproduction ignition cylinder that is very close to a 1971 cylinder. I'll post pictures. Correct door locks in 71 have a small notch in the shutter where the key enters. We will offer correct style 71 door and ignition sets with NOS "A" keys (with knock outs and codes) for $60 a set. Our part number will be PY106B71C. If you want your correct code and we have it, the price will be $80.00 a set. If we do not, we can make the set but keys will not have knock out or code and we can not guarantee the key blanks will be NOS. The current A and B key blanks and NOS ones are nearly identical.
On the glove and trunks - we have NOS glove box locks and replacement trunk locks, but same as the doors - we can use the notched shutter and supply NOS coded "B" key blanks Price on those kits will be $60.00 or $80 for your code. Part number will be PY198C71

At this time I have a waiting list for NOS 70 ignition cylinders to make correct kits. Those kits will be higher in price, depending on what we pay for cylinder.
