Color choices for a 1970 convertible with black top/ black interior

Trying to pick out a color for a 1970 convertible that will look great with the body lines (this car is not stock, it's modified, so I will not be sticking with the factory color).
Top and interior are black.
Black, white, golds, yellow's, green's are out.
Silver is possible (what's a good shade?)
I've owned way too many blue cars (although blue is a possibility)

What colors compliment black top/ black interior??

Thank you!

IMO you can”t beat Cortez silver if you’re looking for a shade of silver. I also like a burgundy shade with that interior and top. My two suggestions are fairly common so they might not float your boat.

silvers look great with black... but if silver is too bright for you consider something more in the charcoal range. lots of car brands have very nice charcoals with varying amounts of metallics in them. look at some mid 2000s BMW charcoals or same era chevy on corvettes, a darker one is called galactic grey. another nice charcoal is fords charcoals of the mid 2000s you will see on F150 trucks. i painted my 72 firebird a 2009 BMW charcoal, looks great with black interior. i almost went with a newer kia called titanium silver that is more of a charcoal or dark silver.

BMW sterling grey i used on the firebird.

Reds always look good with black also.

If it doesn't have to be a 70 color...I really like that dark candy apple red that Mazda has used currently.

Were it mine, Canyon Copper.

vertigto: My wife had a 2015 Mazda 3 in Soul Red; I do not think it would look correct with a vintage car.

that, and your insurance adjuster would really squeal if it got hit

I think this is Orbit Orange. Whatever color, I think it looks great with black guts and convertible cover.

I'm going with Pontiac Blue Charcoal Poly for my 68 GTO. I'm keeping the black vinyl top and I have black interior. I believe this color was a mid 60's Pontiac color.

I used Gun Metal gray

Seats are a darker red and rest of interior is black. Good luck on color choice. Also a Lemans and the color looked good with Chrome bumpers.
2018 Nissan Gun Metallic
Saw it on the lot on a SUV with chrome bumpers.

I humbly submit Joe Martin's '73 Bird build in a color very similar...not too shabby to me.

Silver being one of my favorite car colors, I was surprised that when this 69 GTO in Palladium Silver showed up on BaT that I wasn't particularly crazy about it.

Black would be my choice, but since you've ruled that out, what about a dark blue (like Atoll)?

That’s a Tri color …..and a bitch to match…if anything happens. Don’t ask me how I know this……….

how about orbit orange

A color along the lines of canyon copper would be a fantastic color for your car. My 71 vert was a canyon copper car originally with saddle interior and white top, currently it is resale red with black/black. Someday I would like to return it to the correct canyon copper color with a slight tweak to the flake/pearl amounts.

Thank you thus far. Love candy apple, however, too many steps for me and the bodywork is NOT super… lol. Did like bronze…
Trying to stay away from blue as my previous 69 was blue, last convert was blue, truck is blue, hardtop is blue….
Silver or maybe a platinum / silver platinum?

dhcarguy 01-13-2022 08:34 PM

Black top and black interior goes with ANY color. It is YOUR car, paint it your favorite color.

Never understood this type of question.

ged2227 01-14-2022 10:34 AM

DH- there are some body lines that look "striking" with a certain color... Some, not so much. I want a color that catches eyes. I am not particular to any one color. Hence, I wanted people to give opinions on what cars they have seen in color combinations that caught their eye. That is the rationale behind this specific post.
