Calling All 72 WW5 GTO's - Special Performance Option

1 Attachment(s)
Please add your WW5 equipped car to this list of known examples.
With the help of many forum members we have compiled a listing of documented remaining cars.

Please share your documentation to be considered bonafide in this day and age.
We do not have to have the whole VIN if you wish to keep the last few digits private.

For the new folks, here is a list of what the WW5 option included -
in addition to this list, 15" Raised White Letter Tires were included.
I think they were part of the 724/Y99 Handling package.
Y99 was a pretty stout option on its own.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1435897284

These WW5 cars came standard with 15" steel wheels and poverty caps unless Rally2 or HCombs were ordered. Most of these did get optional wheels.

The WW5 option price indicates whether the car was 4 speed or Automatic.
The option price, along with all other option prices and base price, were reduced after 12/11/71 .

Feel free to share your contributions and experience.
All factoids welcome.

Baron Von Zeppelin 07-03-2015 12:35 AM

We have 20 of these documented so far.

13 - Automatics
7 - 4 speeds

Some current factoids on the total -
4 - Auto's with Bench Seat & Column Shift
7 - Auto's with AC
4 - 4 speeds with AC
6 - cars with Stripes

All of these examples are Hardtops
Coupe / Post was also available with WW5
290 WW5 GTO's total

Please contact Lloyd, The Boss, PB, Mmarx, or myself - by Private Message - if you do not know how to post your documents. You can email them to one of us.

Any cars Without Documentation will be added to a tentative list on stand-by, maybe.

Todd, the story on the Red car was that it was built for export with the seat belts deleted, did not ship/sell for whatever reason and then bounced around through several dealerships before finally going to Cerami Pontiac in NJ.

That was according to Jim Mattison, however I only got the one PHS for it.

The car only had 5X,000? original miles on it when I got it in 93 I think and was original paint, but I ended up painting it shortly after I got it. It was street raced locally by two well cared for sons of the local oil company owner, now in Long Island and is being treated to a frame off restoration it didn't need.

Baron Von Zeppelin 07-03-2015 04:32 PM

That sounds like the best hypothesis of any on the Red/Ivory/White 4 speed car Boss. Thanks for posting the info !

The shoulder seatbelt delete deal is peculiar , and they were probably US Govt mandated by that point in time. Export Order is a really good conclusion.

The few 72 PMD Plant Buildsheets I have seen would not even give any further clues like an Atlanta or Fremont Buildsheet might spell out.

Beautiful Car .
They'll probably get the right trans and console back in it during the resto !

Baron Von Zeppelin 07-03-2015 05:04 PM

If you guys could keep your eyes peeled for these cars on eBay and Craigslist that would be really great.
That's where a good percentage of these have come from in the past.

Grab a copy of their Invoice or any Documents you can.
My internet service is too slow to do much of any leisure hunting/searching these days.

When Lloyd and I swap out our documents and he has a copy of all 20 cars he might do one of his further breakdowns for you guys on all the cars.
What I posted is just a preliminary to get it off the ground and running again.

Always thankful for any help or info .

The Boss 07-03-2015 05:25 PM

It was shoulder & lap belt delete.

The correct M22 trans & WM block were sold with the car.

Lloyd-TX 07-03-2015 05:26 PM

Hey todd - you've got mail.
Talk to you next week, my friend.

Happy and safe Independence Day to all here . . .

Will definitely keep my eyes open for more docs, Todd.

It will be a pleasure to do another of those option/price/equipment breakdowns in the near future.

On a lighter note -

72 WW5 Hardtop 4spd Without AC
Gross Weight = Frt - 2560 / Rr - 2620 = 5180 pounds GVW

72 WW5 Hardtop Automatic With AC
Gross Weight = Frt - 2660 / Rr - 2630 = 5290 pounds GVW

72 Lemans Wagon with Endura , AC , 350cid , 350 auto trans
Gross Weight = Frt - 2600 / Rr - 3240 = 5840 pounds GVW

at least , they are lighter than a station wagon

Todd, remember that GVW is NOT the same as curb weight. GVW is a separate measure that accounts for full fuel, all fluids passengers and luggage. Much different than curb weight, which is listed as "shipping weight" 3,619

Also, can likely provide information on a known WW5 with build sheet information/VIN later in month. I looked at this car with a friend who was looking to purchase about 10 years ago as part of a 3 car collection. WW5 car was either Adriatic or Lucerne Blue with a White vinyl top and parchment interior. I saw the original build sheet still under the carpet (We peeled carpet back to show it resting there - was not removed). I crawled all over that car for hours. I think I have pictures...will need to look. Can get details from friend who I know has the information. Car was sold "out from under him" - he was extremely displeased. the 1970 pepper Green 4-spd 455 HO car also sold in same deal to other buyer who swooped in. :( My friend did end up with the 3rd car - 1971 LeMans Sport driver with T41 front end

Baron Von Zeppelin 07-06-2015 07:22 PM

Glad you remembered the difference on the GVW.
Wondered how the rear weight could be so close to the front like that.
Seemed awful porky too !

That data was from their respective buildsheets. btw

Is 3619 for an Endura 455 GTO - Auto ? - AC ?
Or a base tempest 6cyl 3spd ?

Sorry to hear your friend lost out on those 2 cars like that.
Will be great if you can source any documents/data .

This is for 1971. I suspect 1972 should be similar.

pggto 07-08-2015 02:05 PM

I have one to put on stand by. Guy I know has a Lucy blue, white interior, WW5, 36,000 miles, rally II's, non AC, don't remember what other options it has. His ex wife's uncle bought it new, now he has it. I saw the phs about 6-8 years ago, he has the car in storage, very nice car. If I get a chance to talk to him I will see if he will let me document it.

my bet is Z1 with a 731 (ivory bucket interior).

Which ever color top & interior, makes 3, possibly 4 Sundance WW5 auto's with AC, built fairly early (09b,09C) that now have info on.
