Another thread got me thinking...

So, which way would you go?
1. As delivered
2. Dealer upgrade off another vehicle. Or,
3. Day 2.

I love Honeys, but they suck. Heavy, don't balance well. Love D98 cars, looks great!

eaglesan13 04-27-2024 01:09 AM

I'm a traditionalist, so I vote for the rally II's (as delivered).

Ramairnacho 04-27-2024 01:55 AM

wheels

option 4 . any thought with modern style 17 inch hone combs or rally 2, U.S. Mags also makes cool rims. In high school. I ran enki style and centerline solid polished rims.

That's the beauty of wheels, if/when you feel like
swapping them it won't take long. "Day 2" strikes
me more as Day 500. Anyone know when the SST
first started selling?

johnta1 04-27-2024 06:32 AM

I'd also do the Day 2. Except with Keystone Klassics!

:)

It seemed everyone had the cragar 5 spokes or centerline type wheels.
I'm always the one to go different, got the Keystones. L60's on back and G60's front.

:D

triathlonx13 04-27-2024 06:59 AM

Keystone Klassics would look good, if that is an option.

Those Centerlines don't look good on A-Bodies in my opinion.

Can't go wrong with Rally IT'S

.

Option 1, as delivered... but remove the trim rings. Trim ringless rally 2s are some of the best looking pontiac factory wheels on cars of this era IMO.

Keystone style could be an option too.

I agree on both points.

The Cragar SST's didnt make it onto the scene til very early 80's. So more like Day 2000 for a '73 Bird. Can remember around here a bunch of mid 70's alum front bumper Camaro's getting a set, w several of us calling em out as "Pie Plates" wheels :) Usually installed with air shocks & maybe a pair of cheap traction bars. No thanks then, no thanks today.

The Super Trick were around in the '73-4 time period. But, yeah, the Street Super Trick were 1978-9.

71GP76TA 04-27-2024 12:28 PM

The honeycombs look good with that color and stripes IMO.

My '74 came with 15x7 rallys. I have a set of 15" honeycombs that I was going to install. Ended up buying a set of 17" honeycombs for it.

My '73 came with steel wheels dog dish hubcaps. It looks too blah and plain with them. Right now it has a set of 16x8 Torque Thrusts on it. I do have another set of 15x7 rallys that I switch over to once in a while.

indymanjoe 04-27-2024 03:07 PM

As delivered gets my vote.

Norwood 04-27-2024 03:58 PM

Rally 2 on that car

Transamric 04-27-2024 04:46 PM

Never been a fan of the rounded trim rings on Rallys from '73 - up. But love the wheels. Someone stated they love the look on Honey's but hate them for all the correct reasons. I'm 2X on that. Never cared for the Street Tricks,.....bland!!
If you're leaning towards "Day Two"options, I like the cast aluminum 17" Honeys. Good look with proper sidewall tires.

Orrrrrr,.......got a spare set of trim-ring-less JW's laying around?

Rachelsdad 04-27-2024 05:06 PM

As delivered, hands down. No contest.

I'm a purist, though. ;-)

Held for Ransom 04-27-2024 05:59 PM

A purist doesn't necessarily mean as delivered. Dealer parts added could mean the same. Like adding a four speed to your SD 455 auto/AC car.

Judge273 04-28-2024 08:04 AM

It’s good to have so many good options. But, end of day I like the Rally II look best.

My feelings fatter tires for the mean look.

johnta1 04-28-2024 09:38 AM

I'm sure Mike will do what he wants.
On mine I also had the Rallys plus the Keystones. (also a set of slicks for rears)
When I showed it they had the Rallys on, driving the wide meat. Totally different experience with the wider tires.

:)
