Just in case it's not obvious, this is not my car. It's beautiful, but wow, that's quite the price tag.

Here's the link to the rest of the pictures...

In the ad they say that it's 1 of 7 with this combination, and 1 of 3 with A/C. I'm curious how he could get to that level of detail. PHS doesn't have that data does it?

Stuart 03-02-2021 10:40 AM

There's a previous discussion here about that car someplace, but I can't find it right now. The 1 of 7 and 1 of 3 numbers must have been pulled out of hot air, I don't think that information exists anywhere.

It was in Big Pontiacs(including G-body) FOR SALE

For $175K, it sure has a lot of generic bolts. :(

Ben M. 03-02-2021 11:22 AM

At least the ad didn't say "AC just needs charged" or some other ridiculousness.

Very nice car minus a few generic and unimportant changes that don't matter, I'm wondering if the selling price is an attempt to get back the money spent on the restoration. I'd want a '67 more, but this car sure would be a great substitute!

A 175 grand and they couldn't even get the correct valve covers?!?! Somebody is looking for a fool trying to part with his money. The car may be real but its not correct and certainly not worth anywhere near that kind of money if it was.

Oops... Yeah, missed that one. I'll check it out. (Other thread)

I actually emailed them to see if I could get some insight into how they came up with that 1 of 7 or 1 of 3 number, but I'm not optimistic I'll get a solid answer.

Doesn't have the original correct bias ply tires on it either. Looks to be BFG Red Line Radials are on it. :(

$44,999.99 tops, just because of that and the wrong valve covers. LOL

Besides that, I'd rather have a 66 421 2+2 HT like a buddy of mine in college had back in 1969. He was a Viet Nam Vet and paid $2500 for his White 66 421 2+2 HT with his combat pay.

Can't believe I'm actually saying this, but in a sense, that's a good thing...

...because correct valve covers Would. Not. Fit.

Teej 03-08-2021 05:21 PM

i don't get it.... why wouldn't they fit?

I also saw that it was ordered with a Deluxe Wheel. The three spoke isn't the deluxe is it?? I thought that was the clear one. Or do I have them backwards?

I didn't look at it that close. Those '67 and up valve covers stick out like a sore thumb on a '66.

I'm guessing either wrong engine, newer heads or for 175 grand you were expecting it to be 100% correct?

That costs extra. :D

Chief got it, newer heads. It's still wearing the incorrect 670s.

For $175K, they sure did cut a lot of corners. :(

You've got them right. Looking at the old thread, it shows it came with the other wheel.
Simulated wood costs a fraction of clear. So is this an "upgrade", or another corner cut?

66 Bonneville 4 speed convert

Not the same car, but I have a Burgundy 66 Bonneville 4 speed convertible with only the base WE 389 still with the car.
The car was pretty well equipped, ps, pb pw, tilt AM/FM with reverb and factory A/C.
Has factory buckets with headrests and passenger side recliner, console and dash tachometer.
PHS shows it only came with the "wood" sport steering wheel.
Still sitting, waiting until I finish the 2+2.
Needs a lot of TLC, but still an interesting project
I was always amazed someone would order all these options and just get the base 389 in it.
I Guess the salesman wasn't a performance enthusiast.

Yep.

My '63 GP has every available comfort and convenience option - but is a 389 4bbl automatic.

I'm sure there are more issues with the car, but it really does present well. It's got decent eyeball.

"Classic" car dealers are famous for marking the car up to the sky, hoping for the Sylvia Porter "bigger sucker" to walk in the door with their buyout or lottery winnings and stroke the check.

Every city has one - they want $299K for Eleanor Mustang clones - and this Bonneville is no different.

My gut says (besides, "hey, look, a Chicken Shack!") that most of these dealers trade between themselves, and do not have a ton of foot traffic walking in with fat checkbooks. Or, they keep a few like these at radically inflated prices looking to pick up more listings for the pedestrian iron.

With a month and a few K, most of this stuff could get fixed by someone who really knew their Darksiders and had a decent stock of parts. But no one who knows Darksiders is going to stroke that check.

Good luck to them, it's pretty damn handsome in the Blue Charcoal, and I wouldn't push it over the curb for leaking oil. I'd be over the moon if this actually went for six figures, but it won't.
