Best place to get 12 volts for HEI dist

I want to put an HEI distributor in my 67 Catalina. Where is the best place to tap into to get full system voltage ?. If it is better to power it with a relay, does anyone know what type of a relay that would work best ?. TIA.

its been a good while, but I want to say the best thing is to remove the wire feeding the old points setup at the block on the firewall and replace it with a wire with no resistance.

I am confident someone will be along shortly to set us both straight.

Pretty sure that's what I did in my '67 Olds, but it's been almost 30 years since I installed that HEI, so my memory may be faulty. :D

I've found the easiest way is to use the spare ignition terminal on the fusebox.
But... not all cars have it. If you're good with electrical, it can be added.

Or add a Bosch 12 volt relay powered by the original resistor wire and a fused hot wire from the battery through the relay contacts to the HEI.

Leave the original resistor wire if you think you'll ever return to a points distributor.
