Re-Use these Lifters?
 

Would you reuse these Comp Endure-x solid roller lifters? They have some scuffing on the body that I can barely drag my nail on. I called Comp about rebuilding and they said they dont do that service anymore.

The more important question is how they fit in the bore!
If you can rock them side to side then you need to determine if it’s just due to their body’s being worn, or the lifter bore’s also contributing to the rocking.
Proper clearance is .0001 to at most .0015” .

If you are in doubt then by one new standard flat tappet hydro lifter and check the fit in all 16 bore’s and the lifters full length of needed travel,

If you then have excess clearance I would go back to a flat tappet cam since when a roller lifter has excess clearance and rock it will chew up the needle bearings in time.

If you want to play with a roll of the dice if you have worn bores then get new roller lifters that use a solid bearing and not needle’s.

If all the rollers feel good and they still fit the bore yes. I’m using a set now I got used and they are in the second engine since I have had them.

If C/C doesn't offer that service any longer, I would check with one of their competitors to see if they would rebuild your lifters, never hurts to ask.

One, or two of your examples seems to have some rough looking scoring on the lifter bodies too. What happened in the last engine they were in?

If there was metal in the oil, I would be suspect of the roller bearings having some abrasive running through them and being less than good quality. If the outer bodies got scored, along with the lifter wheel, I'm not certain I'd be inclined to run them without at least a rebuild. Just my opinion, the decision is yours.

I have reused Comp rollers in the past with good luck.
But looking at those seeing the bluing or black scuffing
it looks like they were running dry which would make me
think that the bearings in the roller wheels also have damage.

Short answer, No!

Who makes some good Solid rollers? Im not a fan of the Comps now just for the fact they dont rebuild anymore and the company is a sell out. My engine spun a main bearing and now I am building a splayed 4 bolt Main '73 400 Stroker.

crower or isky with bushings vs needles. heard good things about BAM but have not used them
i would order soon so you have them when you need them

BAM made my lifters and had them within a week.
My old 455 had used Comps from 2008 to 2019 with many passes.
But your lifers do not look so hot. Something bad happened to them. Not worth the risk.

My engine builder has seen quite a few crower failures lately. They are in high rpm truck pull engines but he has made the comment that the quality isn't what it once was with them.

maybe i had a 22 year old ultradyne solid roller/morel fail last week. just dont make em like they used to :)
got lucky it didnt take anything else out but cam and lifter

The upper roller in each picture looks worn and looks to have had some hard crap get between the roller and the lobe. They look pretty sketchy in the pics.

I'll give ya a hundred for them if you don't want them. Let me know?

I’ve ran bodies that were more scuffed then those. Looks like your oil feed hole location might not be where it needs to be. The big question is how do the wheels feel.

I ditched the Comps and got the BAM DLC Solid Bushed lifters. Did you use any lifter bore restrictors on your BAMS?

I decided to run Crower needle bearing lifters in this 461. Have had them on the shelf for years.
Saving the BAMs for future build. Probably IA2 540 pump gas engine.
I was planning on running .100 restrictors with them. The builder I bought them from and the manufacturer both said that was plenty of oil.
I know someone who has them on a 700HP pump gas stroker and he does not use any restrictors.

Ive have some older Doug Herbert lifters ive retired, couple of the rollers started to feel rough. My rebuilt Crower Hipos have had 0 issues at all. Id recheck the lifter bores, they may do the same thing to another set...
