Caswell home plating kits

Anyone use these?

Trying to contact Caswell is a bit more difficult than winning an argument with the IRS!!! Nobody wants to talk to a customer; everyone wants the customer to read a blog and place an order! The kit that interests me is the Copy Cad Zinc.

The plater I have used for almost 50 years is too ill to continue plating, and I have a few items to plate.

Those who use it: Fumes? Storage? Difficulty in getting replacement chemicals? Disposal of spent chemicals?

Thanks in advance.

Jon

On their website there's a Support button at the upper right where you can get their phone number or email, plus they have an online forum where presumably you can ask questions. Not saying you haven't already tried these things, just eliminating the obvious. :) It's also possible they are shut down during the holidays and will be back after January 1.

I played with their website for about an hour last week, and just got run around in circles.

Stuart - you may be right about them being shut down for the holidays, I will be patient and attempt to call them next week. Just kind of wanted to get experiences from folks here that may use it.

Jon.

Sorry to hear about your plater
Hope its not due to the dangerous chemicals hes been handling for 50 + yrs.

Ive done grey phosphate and black oxide (Parkerizing) and can tell you a thermometer ,stainless bowls and a hot plate or campstove are needed.
I went to local restaurant supply place and got the trays that you use on a hot steam food line, they come in all sizes and depths. I guess you know to do some crappy parts first in case it all goes south and you have to expand the learning curve.Good luck

I've used Caswell kits and they work. As far as disposing of nasty chemicals afterwards you are on your own. If you need a cad plater try Delta Specialty Coatings in Houston. They will do one piece and ship it back but they have $100 minimum so it will behoove you to send them a box full. They also alodyne coat aluminum and many other coatings.

I've used them for years to re-cad plate steel carburetor components. You will note that a fellow named Mike Reeder owns the place. He and I have the same last name but are no relation.
