It needs a total restoration but I think it would be a heck of good car to get if doing restorations are your thing.

I think I'd try to conserve it more or less as is, before doing a full restoration. The holes in the trunk need attention, and some of the surface rust spots should be treated so they don't get any worse. As long as the car isn't driven in bad weather and is kept inside when not in use, it probably won't deteriorate much more.

i can't figure out what that chrome thing is that's shown sitting on the hood in the last couple photos - did it attach to the nose piece where those holes are, as some sort of wind deflector?

I was wondering that too. I thought it was just some sort of decorative addition.

That was an "EL Classico" option. Harvey Morris (SSJ71) would be able to give you plenty of details.
