Good catch

You're going to be hard pressed to find a complete motor, and it will be quite expensive. If you're after a 4-bolt main block, you can add the 1970 XF (Grand Prix) 455 to the mix. It doesn't have round port heads, but those can be found separately. A complete SD motor is going to be north of $12K or more, and a 71-72 will set you back $6K or more, depending on how much is there. What is your budget?

Whew. Thanks for the market comps!

I do have a 72 YB 455 HO short block for sale ( 60 over in the car ).....I also have several 455 4 bolts for sale as well...these blocks are cleaned and magged and ready for a build..
.As poncho-mike was saying...these are not cheap...if your restoring a car and need a specific block - that's good
if you doing a race car or non-matching numbers car - a Butler strocker kit might be the way to go

Ok thanks. I’m thinking It may be best that I look at a 428 setup for my ‘69 anyway.

poncho-mike 06-01-2021 09:37 AM

You can turn a 428 into a 455 by grinding a little bit of the bottom of the bores away (for clearance for the rods) and using a 455 crank. A 428 standard bore block can be bored .030" to make it a 455 standard bore if you use the 455 crank. That is the cheapest way to get a 455 4-bolt main bottom end.

Round port heads and the matching intakes are very expensive. The strongest street motor I ever ran was a .030" over 455 4-bolt block (this makes a .060" over 428) with a 428 crank (for roughly 440 cubic inches) with a set of 1970 Ram IV heads, Hooker headers, and a MSD system in a 1970 Trans Am. I used the factory Ram IV intake but deleted the crossover.

Where is Richardson? What part of the world?

Wouldn't want to have something shipped cross country if you could pick it up local.
