Had them as original set in my 69 Bird. ADJ by collapsing and turning.

So what does the adjustment do? Change ride height (without any modification to springs)? And if yes, that can adjustment be done while installed in the car?

No it does not change the ride height.
You compress the shock all the way and you'll get it area where it locks in and then you turn it and it makes it stiffer and stiffer as you turn it. |
