67 convertible coming back to life

I bought this car two years ago planning to restore it myself. It took me about six months to figure out that it would take years of nights and weekends to pull it off. A worthy endeavor for sure, but the time horizon didn’t work for me. So I sent it off to a shop about 4 hours away for the full treatment. It’s getting close now. These last few weeks are going to be excruciating. I can't wait to drive it home!

Nice Jeff.....Is that Linden Green?? Was it the original color??

goatmanmitch 11-23-2010 06:38 PM

Nice! Love me a Linden green car, especially with parchment.

Yes, it's Linden Green, and this was the original color. You can see it on the rocker in the before photo.

Always liked Linden Green on '67's....especially with parchment interior. Going to be a nice car!

You guys have sharp eyes!

Gator,
I can vouch for the fact that it takes years of evenings and weekends. I'm on year 6.
It looks great, I've seen it in your avatar and I've wondered about it.
My convertible GTO is Linden Green also but with a black interior.
Very nice, looking forward to seeing it done!

Do you want me to stop by and get it broken in for you? Seriously though, I have not been by the shop in a while and need to take a look. It's coming along nicely. It will hopefully make a nice Christmas present.

Gator67 11-23-2010 08:37 PM

Thanks Squid. I've seen your car on your website. You've done a remarkable job on it. I can appreciate what you started with, for I grew up in CT and had a 67 LeMans that was in the same shape when I gave up on it (in 1977). I noticed that your car came with the wire wheel discs--mine too. My car is an HO 4 speed, and I think it's odd that someone would order these performance options together with the wire hubcaps.

Christmas is the goal, Andre. I really wanted it to be done for the Rod Run, but it will happen soon enough, and it will be worth the wait. I was there Monday (spent the better part of the day scraping silicone from the tail light lenses) and my plan is to visit once a week until it's done. Hopefully we'll have a chance to catch up.

Going to be a very nice car!

squidtone 11-23-2010 10:08 PM

Gator,
Thanks for the kind words.
I agree it sounds strange to have wire wheel caps on an HO car. I often wonder if many of these cars were dealer ordered this way, or just strange combos ordered by customers.

Good luck and please post pics when you get it back!

I dont think they are ever done.

Satyr1966 11-24-2010 11:17 AM

I agree with Paul. They are never done. You may have it drive-able or even ready to show, but you will still have a mental list of future improvements & repairs to make.

Friend of mine had a matching numbers '67 Linden Green hardtop HO here a few years back that his uncle purchased new. It was fairly loaded- Black gut, black vinyl top and wire hubcaps. He took the car apart, and I don't think it ever went back together again. :-(

Jeff- Drop me a email when you are going to be here again.

Here's a photo of a car I had in High School that provided the inspiration for the GTO that's being restored now. Its a Linden Green LeMans HT (parchment & white vinyl top) powered by a 283 that I got out of a wreck (for free). I drove the wheels off this car for a year before the frame snapped in half.

Progress. The bumpers (rechromed) and much of the trim (polished) are now on the car. The mesh part of the grill on the passenger side appears to be misshapen. The piece was on the car previously, and from the "before" photos, it looks the same. Wondering if I should try to get a straighter grill or just live with it. I'm concerned that I'm being persnickety.

Here's a better photo of the grill...

Man, I just love Linden Green 67s The car looks great !! I would personally make the grill mesh match, it would be a distraction visually, and may lead a buyer, if you ever sell it, to become suspicious of a previous accident, however minor. Larry B.
