TRW L2359F or L3088F PISTONS
 

What is the difference between these two pistons? Any one have an old TRW book?

Both the early L2359F pistons and the L3088F are acceptable TRW pistons.

The L3088F appears to possibly have a Millimeter ring set used on a 1987 Chevrolet 7.4L Piston, BUT NOT SURE AT ALL ABOUT THAT ONE.

Hi Scott.
My TRW book from 86 list the 2359 as being a forged replacement for the standard 455 motors and the 71 and 72 455 HO motors.
My catalog is too old and does not list the 3088 yet.

The 2394 piston is for the 455SD only due to the narrow pin width of the SD rod, but can be made to work with factory rods .
It also has 1/16” ring grooves , and a near 26 cc dome to get over 10 to 1 out of the SD heads.

I guess where I am going with this is NHRA lists different cc specs for the 455 pistons depending on the year. They range from 6.20 cc to 3.10cc, depending on year and hp rating. Trying to find more documentation.

My guess would be that since the 4 valve notch pistons ( standard 455 ) had a total of 6.7 CCs, that the 3.1 CC volume would be in relation to the single valve notch trough that was in a 455SD piston.

TRW L2000F series pistons are Powerforged.
TRW L3000F series pistons are Cast aluminium.
Also, L3000F series is "decompressed" (like 1975-76 OEM pistons).

This is true, but so confusing that TRW still used a F at the end of the part number !

My guess is the 3088 piston has the big chamfer at the top of the piston(74 &later} accounting for the CC difference
