If you just want to control your maximum boost then use the 'gates spring to control it- a 12psi spring will give you 12psi of boost. If you use an adjustable ball and spring valve (Grainger type valve) in the boost tube to wastegate diaphram set at 12psi- then boost rise time up to 12 psi will be much, much quicker (the 'gate doesn't 'crack' open until the ball vave opens). 1 psi of boost to 17psi of boost took 0.7 of a second according to my data logs. You can also use a bleed valve on a tee in the boost tube to 'gate diaphram to increase boost level above the 12 psi spring. Basic old skool stuff.
If you want to manipulate boost settings for launch/power control then you'll need an electronic boost controller like an AMS 500/1000/2000 |
In lieu of a CO2 bottle, some guys are going to onboard compressed air. Small compressor and tank. No more refilling CO2 bottles.

Boost controller
Thanks guys I have a manual J&S boost controller but I want something like Taff was talking about being about to leave with 5 lbs of boost and ramp up to 15 # ,

Use this valve inline with a manual controller and you have 2 stage boost. Spring setting is first then open the valve with a switch to the controller for stage 2. I have been doing this for 5 years now. I run 6psi in first gear and then hit the switch in 2nd for 15:)

On my daily driver i'm going to use a Turbosmart E-Boost Street controller --> https://www.turbosmart.com/product/e...-street-40psi/
Comes with controller, mac valve and all of the wiring. It has 2 boost settings so my set point 1 will be around 7psi, set point 2 will be around 12psi for when you want all the smiles. |
