Rear spoiler torsion bars for trunk

Has anyone used the reproduction torsion bars for the trunk lid with spoiler ....I’m adding rear spoiler and want correct torsion rods ...thanks for any input ...Chris

I have used them and they are a bit stronger than stock. You only need the 1 thicker rod that works the pass side
Hinge.

Which is really the drivers side with the adjusting and release position ..just like this video for the rod to be changed out.....right ???
Found this video on YouTube best tool I've seen so far

While the "drive pin" and pressure rest against your nice quarter ..
The one being done in the video IS the hard one, the pass side, which locks into the DS as my video shows.
Doing this before paint is highly recommended .
One can put in a strut as well, which works very well, especially with a remote electric trunk release, which
keeps the keys away from the tail panel.

I just replaced one side with the aftermarket replacement. PITA but works fine.

It MUST be thicker than the other one/. I believe Ames has these as well.

Ok got it thanks Bruce appreciate the clarification....

cnc 09-25-2020 10:51 PM

Ordered the 540 Got it installed made a tool Iike the video but still a BEOTCH TO GET IN but it's done...now for the spoiler install..

Formula8 09-27-2020 05:14 PM

Glad to hear that it worked out. I installed my spoiler by taking out the studs and putting small balls of clay in the stud holes. I simply stuck the spoiler exactly where I wanted it then when you pull off the spoiler, the clay balls stick to your trunk lid showing you exactly where to drill. Replace the studs and you are good to go.

I have just ordered a torsion spring set for my '73. It already has a spoiler on in and the boot lid continuously falls down when open. I hope it isn't too had to fit.

cnc 09-28-2020 07:59 PM

Make the tool like the video...hardest part for mine was getting the torsion rod behind the hinge area the tool give u a lot of leverage ...

fbd73 09-28-2020 08:09 PM

Damn. I should have done it before the car came out of the paintshop.

cnc 09-29-2020 07:19 PM

Yes ......if u make the tool and cover the quarter and have some help u might be ok OR like Bruce has mentioned a strut could be installed as well never seen one so I can't comment on fit..maybe Bruce will chime in
