Trans crossmember problem fit
 

My 71 was an automatic...put in the 454 and an m22 rock crusher and now can't get the exhaust to clear bottom or top even when flipping or putting over or underneath the frame.
Has anyone found a crossmember with a deep channel which the dual exhaust could fit thru from the bottom? Seems like that's the way I should go.

I really don't want to chop up the exhaust or fabricate a brace to fit.

Do you have the right crossmember? The X body and 1st gen F bodies all share the same subframe and there are a couple different ones for different Transmissions. You can even buy the one for a T400 new. I would do a little quick research on which cars Came with your setup and go from there.
ie: big block, 4 spd 69 camaro.
