WS6 Cars

Is ws6 an option on trans ams and firebirds or is it standard on all trans ams and formula firebirds?

Optional on t/a only.

So for 93-02 it was optional on trans ams only correct? I'm not familiar too much with these years but is there a big difference in the handling between a ws6 ta and a regular ta?

To correct my statement and clarify, I was thinking more on the lines of when my '02 WS6 was built.

The WS6 option was only available on LS1 equipped Formulas from '98-'00, with only 619 WS6 Formulas being made in those 3 years. The WS6 package was dropped after the '00 model year and not available on '01-'02 Formulas.

By the time my WS6 was built, the suspension on WS6 cars was no different than on the standard T/As. The main handling enhancement on the last WS6 cars was in the tire and wheel combo, 17X9" wheels with 275/40-17 tires on the WS6 option.

This site may help clarify what years the WS6 option was available on 4th-gen Firebirds:

There was no factory WS6 option from 93-95.

The very first WS6 car was a 95 Formula - Jim Mattison built it as a prototype and owns it today.

Also to better clarify the WS6 option - the prototype Formula and the 72 Comp TA cars built in 1995 were counted as WS6 cars and homologated the option for racing. The option recieved broader use in 1996 with 524 Formulas receiving it and 2051 Trans Ams along with another 45 Comp TA's

1997 Production followed with 3847 being produced with 557 Formulas and 3290 Trans Am WS6 Cars produced in either coupe or convertible form.

The WS6 option was not limited to the LS1 cars only as was stated above.
