Check out my latest find, 1973 luxury lemans 400-4 dual exhaust, posi rear end, 82k original miles, only thing missing but will be tracked down is the fender skirts, extremely nice condition, not perfect but not much is.
The reason for my post is I'd like some advice on wheel and tire size front and rear, I want the look like it has now but with Ralley 2s and I'll be going to a 15" rim, the original craiger mags are very nice, just not for me, thanks

I have 15x8 T/A Snowflakes on front and rear with 235x60s front and 255x70s rear. Fit nicely.

I run 225 70R 15 on my 74 Grand Am, which is pretty much stock. I am NOT a fan of different size tires front to back because I like to rotate my tires. All you can do with different is rotate side to side..

cdrookie 08-23-2021 05:52 PM

What size tires are on it now? Are the wheels 14 or 15"? It's hard to judge how it sits from those pics, but IMO, the wheel wells need to be filled. I do 275/60-15 on the rear with 15x8,9, or 10" depending on if you're wanting aftermarket rally's or stock. On the front 205,215,225/70-15 on 15x7 wheels.

15x7 wheels were the optional size on 73 LeMans.
Just do a forum search on HM or HW rally II wheel & the same offset was used with std steel 15x7 wheels for '73.

I had 15x8" snowflakes on my Can Am with 255 60 r15 tires all around and worked great. They fit the wheel wells perfect. Might be able to go wider in the rear. The wheel well is large.

Hey thanks for all the responses you guys so right now it's got what I think are 14x7-in wheels there are just a old school cragar mag and then it's got a 225/60/14 front 245/60/14 rear, I would like to put 15x8 all the way around it either rally twos or if I could find honeycombs but these are on the small side to me especially in the front I'd like to fill out the wheel well better I really need to know on a 15 by an inch wheel what's the least amount of backspace I can run because I like the tire to be out close to the edge of the fenders as much as possible I don't really want to buy a set of wheels just to find out I guess I could get one of those tools they have that mount to your wheel hub and you can put it at different sizes to see what would fit, anyways thank you very much for all the comments!

A straight edge and tape measure work fine. Measure both sides though, it's not uncommon for there to be a little difference side to side.

If you intend on running the factory fender skirts you're going to have to pay very close attention to rim backspacing. Whatever the backspacing is on the 14x6 rims you have now should work when going to a 15" rim.

I found this out the hard way when I purchased 14x6 American Racing rims for my '73 Luxury Lemans and the backspacing on them wasn't the same as my factory 14x6 rims. I could never mount the fender skirts with those American Racing rims and they stuck out maybe only 1/2" more than the factory rims.

Thank you, I am not running the fender skirts at least not for a while, the previous owner is still trying to find them, thanks again
