1966 Bonneville convertible on ebay

This car is absolutely stunning in every way. Many of us have always heard of the 421 4spd a/c combination being super rare and nice to see one finally.

Very nice, but $175 g's , WOW!!

misterp266 01-31-2021 06:41 PM

WOW! is right!

stevep 01-31-2021 06:52 PM

They have 2 chances of getting $175000.00 Slim and none. I realize that it probably cost that much to do it.

It's great to see that it has been restored.
And they really spared no expense doing it either.
An incredible machine

A fellow in Arizona i knew had the car since the mid 80's, iirc
He wanted a high price for it as it sat as a complete solid project car.
25-35k zone somewhere in that range.
There are some before pictures of it posted on this site somewhere from about 8-10 years ago, and he was still the owner of it at that time.
It was sun-baked, but rust-free and complete.

Just guessing that someone else finally bought it and restored it.
They added numerous options during the resto , looks like it is pretty much fully equipped with all the best stuff now.

Interesting that the P-o-P name is the same as the Dealership name on the buildsheet. Probably the owner of dealership or close relative.

Would have been the biggest and baddest convertible on the boulevard in 1966.
66 might have been one of the years where they didn't allow the HO option with 4spd AC .

Very nice to look at. Looks basically perfect. Hope they find the right buyer. After I add a few more, my '66 GP will have the same option list, minus the 'vert but add HO motor.

guy by me has a 67 GP nice car blue with white int needs total restoration not horrible but not worth the 4k he's looking for it such a shame

The car certainly looks great. I did a quick check of the pics and found a couple of things that were interesting.
- the gas tank has a few dents in it - not what I would have expected for the price tag
- is the under carriage supposed to be gloss black? floors and frame.
- it seems the build sheet does not include PW or the PV windows. I wonder if that is supported by the PHS?

Still a great looking car that would fit nicely in my garage. Oh wait, I guess if I sell my house I lose that garage space. Hmmm...I better think this one through.

Beautiful car. Not crazy about what they've done with the trim tag rivets.

mgarblik 02-03-2021 01:41 PM

That's one of the nicest full size 66 Pontiac's I have ever seen. Love the color combination. Pontiac factory literature says clearly that the 421 HO engine was not available with factory AC option. BUT I owned a 66 Catalina 9 passenger wagon 421 HO with factory AC. It was an untouched original car. So IMO, they did make a few here and there, special order forced through the system. No idea how it will do on e-bay auction, but sure a pretty car.

Not to take anything away from a rare & exceptional car. I don't think this is a HO - when I checked I got the 356hp 421. If I am wrong I would love to know.

I was going to respond that you had better have a looonnngg garage, but I see by your signature that you have experience in such things.

It's not an HO - and they aren't claiming it to be as far as i know.
It should have the large metal Dual Snorkel 3x2 Air Cleaner instead of the small HO air cleaners.

They did add a number of options to the car - all in good taste.
It may even have LongBranch exhaust added - i didn't look close enough to see.

I was pretty sure HO wasn't available with 4spd AC
But thought HO -WAS- available with Auto AC

I didn't cross check the engine code. I just saw clearly it had the HO long branch exhaust manifolds which were only available on the 376 HP HO engine in 1966. It could be the 356 HP 421 Tri-power engine they threw HO manifolds on during the restoration. The write-up says 365 HP in several places, which is completely wrong. I assumed it was a typo.

johnta1 02-03-2021 03:54 PM

If it had a 3.42 with 4 speed or 2.93 or 3.08 rear gear it could have AC with an automatic. (3.23 with 3 speed stick also)

The WH is not an 421 HO. (is a 3-2 bbl engine though)

:)

Baron Von Zeppelin 02-03-2021 04:20 PM

John , do you have a chart that tells the axle ratio for this Bonnie ?
It looks like the code is VH on the Buildsheet

Surprised it doesn't list it out numerically in the lower ledger.

stevep 02-03-2021 06:36 PM

WJ is the code for a 421 HO with a manual transmission. That is a 356 horse 3x2 car from the factory.

mgarblik 02-03-2021 07:23 PM

There was a good picture that showed the long branch manifold outlet and the flanges clearly. Nothing wrong with adding those nice manifolds. Exhaust system had the resonators and other nice touches. Was not indicating anything was wrong with it. Quite a nice car.

The only thing I don’t like is the VIN tag as stated previously. Otherwise, it’s awesome! Thought I’d add a few pics before the listing goes away. One thing I thought was odd is there are no “top down” pics. Not on their website either. :confused2

Heybuck 02-07-2021 06:43 PM

Trivial point I know but I see the glove box light is missing. Surely not hard to fix that.

Also surprised with the added options, they had not fitted 4 way flashers nor an underhood pad.
