package / speaker tray for a 68 GTO

Does anyone have any experience with these? How's the fitment?

I need one to finish of the interior of my '68 GTO. I'm aware these are listed as being for a chevelle but I was wondering if someone had used them.

Hey Charlie,
I recently purchased a package tray from Ames for my 68 GTO. It looks similar to the one you posted. Here is the one I purchased.

When I received it, I noticed pretty quickly that it was too wide and didn't fit. When I flipped it over, I noticed the lines where I assume I can or should cut. I haven't installed the package tray yet but I will next week. Instead of just cutting on the dotted lines, I'm just going to trim a little on each side until I get it to fit evenly. I don't know if this helps you any but I would expect to do a little trimming. I'll be curious to see how the mesh holds up after I start trimming the tray.

Package Tray

The dotted lines are where you are supposed to fold up the ends. Then those flaps go behind the earmuffs(C pillar covers). Hope you get this in time. Paul

I got one on eBay that was for the 1969 GTO it was pretty good fit still had to cut a little but looks very similar to the summit one

Thanks GTO.PAUL! I haven't done the package tray yet. I'm most likely going to do it on Tuesday. Thank you for responding to this thread! Just in time!

I bought the one from summit. It did not have the dotted lines and looked slightly different overall. I cut about an inch off left and right sides and then it slides right into place. It is about half an inch too short at the back though.
Not noticeable from the outside unless you know what to look for but not a perfect product either. For me a vast improvement over what I had but if you're looking for perfection, it is not perfect.

Apart from fitment issues there are a few incorrect features in all the jute backed repro's if you are OCD like me.

Factory units only had speaker provision on the right side not both sides.

The jute is much less "dense" than on factory units so you see the speaker perforations much too evidently.

The rear contour along the back window is not quite right but can be made to work (probably a compromise design to fit all 68-72 A bodies).

Two other things to consider is to be careful during installation; when painting the panel to color match apply paint in VERY VERY light dustings with plenty of wait time between sprays to avoid warpage. Also when gluing the forward flap to the seat back structure use a good 3M style spray adhesive and lay the vinyl flap over with a light pull evenly throughout the length to create a nice evenly padded look that is pleasing to the eye.

Were these painted to match the rest of the interior ... for instance and Ivy Gold interior would have this painted Ivy Gold? Or was there some generic color they were painted?

If so ... would I just use the same matching interior paint I use on various plastic interior parts?

They were all painted interior color except for parchment or white interiors were they’d be black like the dash.
