getting ready for the trip to SD this week

I was able to borrow a trailer to pull behind the V8 Solstice and I picked it up yesturday. It should work out well, The car did not even notice the empty trailer behind it. It did not even effect the gas mileage. For the 100 mile mostly Highway trip I averaged 23.2 mpg with the top down.
Looking forward to the Trip. Have not really had a vacation in a couple of years.

that's a fun trip...those cars are so ez on the i's...

Hopefully you drive fast enuff to keep cool - it may be the hottest place on earth right now...

Yeah South Dakota, we haven't been there sense 1999. It does look like it will be in the 90's when we are there, but the A/C does work if need be. It should be a fun trip heading out Thursday.
The Trailer is going to let me carry some tools and it even mounts a spare tire! So it bring the confidence level up for the trip.

Is the giant gas tank " hump" in the trunk gone in that trailer? Would love to see a trunk open pic.

camerjeff 06-20-2022 12:58 PM

Yes the gas tank and the muffler are gone. I will post some interior pictures later today, it has about 10X the usuable space of the "trunk" in the actual car.

I was asked by a Porsche driver if I really had to tow a separate gas tank behind the car? After he noticed the cars V8 Badges.

I love the trailer

A couple more shots, you can see how much more interior space is available with out the gas tank, and convertible top to take up 90% of the space.

That looks like it could be/should be me! lol
The Black Hills are even more beautiful and accessible now than in '99. The very reason why I've been wanting a convertible (Solstice) for some time now, to cruise the Hills.
We just got back from there yesterday. We were at Palmer Gulch Lodge/Mt. Rushmore KOA Resort.
Where are you staying?

camerjeff 06-20-2022 06:44 PM

The main event is at the best western in Rapid City, I rented a small house a few blocks away for the week, it even has a 1 car garage! We are looking forward to it, even if my wife has to fly there and back due to not being able to get 2 weeks off work.
But I am traveling with another couple with there Coupe. So I will have some company at least on the trip out there. And I can listen to what Music I want to for a couple of days at least.

It looks like the weather is going to be nice for you here and at the event, at least as forecasted. I presume you are coming through Sioux Falls? The whole state along I-90 is nice and green, MUCH better than last year's drought conditions and fire hazards.

camerjeff 06-20-2022 07:23 PM

That sounds about perfect, I hope it holds for the trip.

Yup! Would be nice! I'm hopeful but we'll see.

I hope you have an enjoyable trip!
I haven't been there since 2003;
My step-fathers dad lived there (RIP), he had a great place in Whitewood.

433lemans 06-22-2022 10:31 PM

Jeff, the Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo, SD is an interesting I-90 stop along the way, as well as others.

unruhjonny 06-23-2022 12:25 AM

there's a neat one in Deadwood with some movie cars too.

kingbuzzo 06-23-2022 11:33 AM

Wall Drug may be a blackhole...careful

We just got back from the Black Hills. We drove the Scat pack Challenger... 3400 mile round trip. It poured rain all the way from Salt Lake to Sturgis... we even hit snow in Evanston WY. Would like to go back someday when it isn't pouring rain for a week straight.
