1970 Judge Ram Air IV at Mecum Florida

does anyone here on this forum know about this car? Mecum will have this car on the block in Florida in January.

anyone willing to throw a number out for a sale price on this one?

Great looking car! Problem is Mecum auctions have not been kind to RAIV cars in the past. Maybe this one will break the trend.

Ram4king 12-14-2020 11:55 PM

Doubt it. This is a known car. Social distancing would be best.

I believe this car was there last year. I remember seeing it. Several things struck me as "odd" about this car. I am no expert but like a lot of these cars that "make the circuit" there is usually a reason they are back time and time again. It could be the reserve or something else.

Anyone want to take guesses of what it will bid to?

Here are the results for 1970 Judges and RA IV cars at Kissimmee in 2019 and 2020.

1970 RAIV Judges don’t bring near the money as a 1969.

Ram4king 01-09-2021 06:29 PM

Thats because the only 70 Ram Air iv judges that have been offered at mecum auction have all been whores. Known cars that were slapped together with all stamped parts. Same cars that just nobody wants. Ive just 2 if them in the last year that had good paper and right parts and both brought well over 6 figures. It depends on the car. The last good one I saw advertised sold for over 150k

I looked at that car yesterday. Sat in it and went to open center console lid and the vinyl top fell off the metal base of the lid! So many things like that on these auction cars that seem to float around auction to auction. A lot of these cars in the auctions have nice shiny paint but when you look closer thats about it. A 66 GTO claimed to be a recent frame off restoration had control arm shafts and bushings that looked like they were on the car when new. Same for other suspension and chasis components. There are some very nice cars there too. You just have to look hard for them.

Two of the 69 Judges were really poorly done. They were "thrown" together and one looked like it was painted from a rattle can!

Why "Highlight" the wrong carb?

There is a lot of incorrect information in the listings. If you read their disclaimer they take no responsibility for the accuracy of the information that the seller provides.

The silver 69 GTO 4 speed badged as a Judge RAIV clone has RA II heads, not RAIV heads, and a Edelbrock RPM intake. The only RAIV parts are the block and exhaust manifolds and the RAIV block is coded for a automatic. So the only correct RAIV part on the car for a 4 speed is the exhaust manifolds and I think they are reproductions.

Sounds like a typical auction car to me:noidea:

I looked at PHS on that car. It was born a real RA III Judge with close ratio 4 speed and optional rear axle ratio. Also had optional heavy duty Saf-t-track rear axle. No console, hood tach, rally gauges. Probably a 3.90 gear.

Ram AirIV Judge at Mecum

I was there and saw the car. It was white with a red interior. Normally I find that an appealing combination but it just did not work on this car. The people that stated there was something odd about it are absolutely correct. It just seemed very drab and mundane. I own a 70 and am of course partial but most of the 69's there are what you would expect a Judge to be . This 70 was a real disappointment. FYIY Paul:

Looks like the highest dollar 70 sold there in the last couple years was a ram air iii. I see no RAIV cars over $100k. Funny how every car that goes to a auction is a whore on here. Lots of expensive whores out there. How about the 69 triple black RAIV convert for close to $700 k. Tell me all about the shape that car was in when Milt got it. Sporting a Chevy engine and dug up out of a junk yard. It’s funny how a lot of people on here think they have a holy grail car. Just like a 73 SD Brewster car that was bent like a horse shoe around a telephone pole.in the Buffalo NY area. Look at the Judge converts.a 70 brings nowhere near the money as a 69. That is just a fact. 70s bring less money than a 69.

joegpho 02-12-2021 07:54 PM

With the buyer's premium (10%) included, the car sold for $112,750.
For a non-numbers car that seems high.

Then again - most of the cars lately at auctions like Mecum seem to be selling, well - to high for me!

Really? I can’t believe they would advertise it as a Ra4 car

Mecum takes no responsibility for information the seller provides. This car had the PHS in it. It did have reproduction RAIV exhaust manifolds and round port RAII heads. Maybe it was supposed to be advertised as a RAIV clone I don't know.
