Tri-Power Problem
 

Went out for a drive yesterday. Gave my GTO my monthly WOT to put fresh gas in the front and rear carbs. everything seemed fine until I stopped at a light. would not idle and seemed like it would stall. As long as I kept my foot on the gas it ran fine. Babied it home ran fine with foot on gas. The rear carb seemed to be leaking. Tried to start it would not start. Waiting for a friend to come over to keep an eye on things before I try to start it again. Thanks Bob.

Had my friend stop over. It started. Rear carb leaking at the base. What would cause that?

Check this:

Most likely a float that leaks and is partially filled with gas. Not a difficult fix. PM me if you need parts.

I had the needle seat come loose on my front carb once, causing it to flood too.

Tap it with a screw driver handle. A lot of times that will unstick it.

Happened to me too.

Yes tap it right were the fuel line attaches to carb , & if that works leave it alone , the few times it has happened i have opened them up to find nothing .

Could be something as simple as a very small particle stuck on the needle of a viton needle. I have also noted that over time the "ramp" the needle rubs against can get a bit rough and help hang the float. When I have the carbs off and "open" I prep the parts by
gently polishing the contact surfaces for a very smooth operation.

Thanks for all the advice. Tried the tapping with the screwdriver didn't seem to help. Carefully removed the bowl cover not to mess up the gasket. Did the leak test on the float it was good. Gave the needle valve a test it was good. The float seemed to be binding on the pin. Cleaned up the pin and oiled it up. Put everything back together and so far no leaking. Thanks Bob.
