YOUR fastest engine swap???????

Talking with my buddy last night we started talking about the fastest engine swap either of us have done. My best from pulling car in to shop and driving it out was 8 hrs. The only help was taking off hood and putting it back on (1969 gto) this was back in the early 90’s when we still did a lot of street racing. The swap included pulling engine changing heads, cam, lifters, oil pump, chain, ect to new shortblock and installing. Keep in mind this was a time period we didn’t care about engine being painted nice or any of that it was all about the go. So let’s hear your best times.

On my dirt track cars, pulling engine, swap heads, and cam to another shortblock and reinstalling in chassis on raceday about 6 hours. That's with a lift, and a chainfall and some pretty good wrenches working on it with me.

In a sprint car I've seen an engine swapped in under 15 minutes in the pits. but that's with quick disconnects, and a whole lotta people that know exactly what they're doing performing the swap.

Swapped engines between 2 early 80s K5 Blazers. Parked em nose to nose in one of the bays of our local volunteer fire department. Had em both switched and driving within 12 hrs.
Don’t ask why….

LOL.... about the same amount of time. 8 hours or so. Stock for stock in a buddies old chevy truck. We actually did paint it chevy orange though.

Three hours to drop a complete 455 HO in my 80 TA. The old engine was already out and I had two competent friends helping. One guy under the car and one on each side. When we boasted about getting it done in three hours another friend said "that means you do it too often".

About the same degree of time. 8 hours give or take. Stock for stock in an ancient Chevy pickup belonging to a friend. However, we did end up painting it a chevy orange color in the end.

OK ... not a swap ... but back when I was 20 years old in the Navy I would go to the "hobby shop" (on base multibay garage for enlisted people) and pull my engine out to ... wait for it ... clean it. I'd take it out, leave it on the hoist, roll it to the side, clean it up, usually replace a few things, put it back in. Hood was on four pins so it came off quick. Typically a full afternoon ... five hours or so.

I'm not sure on an exact time. But one day we put an engine in my buddies '65 Chevelle. Someone (not me) put half of the rear main seal in backwards. So we pulled it out, fixed it, and put it back in same day. Not anymore! lol

1973 Firebird 350. Brian and I showed up to pull the engine and they said it could not be done due to two bolts that could not be reached. Within the hour it was on an engine stand.
The group went about cleaning the engine and the engine compartment and Brian and I went home.
We came back the next morning and put the engine back in the car and we made it to a photoshoot at Papago mountain before noon.
And they said it could not be done.

I'm usually in the "one year" to "two years" timeframe.
