69 400 YT upgrade...need some thoughts on hp/torque #'s when done...
Ok, so the old 69 FB 400 with factory AC is getting an engine upgrade as follows:
1) it's already been rebuilt to 9.5:1, 17cc dished KB pistons, 9000 miles ago. 2) Want to swap out the #62 head (72cc CC) for KRE as cast 65cc shaved .030 to 62cc. CR expected to be 10.7:1 at that point. 3) KRE recommends the Crower 60243 cam, Comp pushrods, Comp Magnum roller rockers with 1.65" ratio. 4) RPM Performer Intake with my SMI 850 cfm Stage 2 Q-Jet on top. 5) Exhaust is the RARE ceramic coated D port long branch cast iron manifolds, into 2.25" dual exhaust with H pipe. 6) 3.55 posi rear gears, 2004r upgraded tranny as well as TA handling package. I'm figuring that it's going to come in around 400 hp and 440 Torque. Some of my more learned friends say otherwise... as in less. Anyone have an idea or done this before without the stroker 462 setup and just the 400 .030 over?? I appreciate your time and thoughts! Jim |
Assuming you are talking about engine vs. chassis dyno numbers, I think your friends might be wrong.

Seems like it would be well more HP than my 40 over 400 and here's my dyno chart:

I'd call Butler and tell them what you have what cam they would recommend. If you want the car to run on premium you can't run a RAVIV cam IMO. I love the sound of a good running Pontiac and not a "lopey" cam.

Thanks roger1 for your dynosheet.
thews: I did contact Butler, but they are 5-6 months out on complete engine kits, and a year on complete turnkey motors. Everything is in short supply or delay mode right now. Jim |

My dyno sheet is similar to Roger's for a 30 over 400, stock heads, Qjet and a similar cam. Gotta believe you will easily surpass by a substantial margin with your setup.

@vertigto: Do you know what # stock heads you had for this dyno pull? Our timing is the same as well.
Thanks for posting! Jim |

After four months of waiting for parts, the upgrade to the Bird started today at a shop in Prescott, AZ. Rather than screw around I went with Scarebird Monster oversized front calipers, Power Stop Z26 Extreme disc rotors and pads, plus all new drum brakes in the rear.
Figuring it was time, I upgraded the A/C compressor as well to the Classic Air Sanden unit, plus a new Retro Sound bluetooth capable radio. It'll be a couple of weeks, but I'm looking forward to getting it back. I'll have to take it to Phoenix to get a dyne test done, so those numbers will be posted in July sometime. Jim |
