77 TA Coming up for sale

Interesting car. Not much detail on it yet but potentially a very nice car.

It looks like it was just listed on Bring a Trailer.

Auction is what I thought would happen with a car like that. That's what I would do.

Isn't a Firebird a Firebird and Trans Am a Trans Am but not both?

77 TRASHCAN 11-28-2022 10:13 PM

If you go to the parts store (especially these days), it's best to always ask for firebird parts. Then see if the young person asks you any potential options the car has, or specifics about the part you are looking for.
Asking for Trans AM parts just makes things confusing.

Nice looking car!!! Paint looks waaay too nice to be original. Wheels have gray centers ,(mine were black).

It's very close to my car's options. Mine has AC, but NOT the side trim. Everything else is exactly the same.
I just read through the BAT ad. I guess it might have original paint. At 16,000 miles. Looks like it has been well kept.

Can anyone elaborate on the title situation. Massachusetts doesn't issue titles for classic vehicles? What???

I like it!

That's always how I understood it formally. We do get used to talking in slang and abbreviations casually.

Looks like an honest, unmolested car. Does have this issue on the cowl.

Yeah, that's a shame on such an otherwise nice looking car. Seems like not a great place to have that.

Seeing that it is so clean underneath, it could be the result of a rodent nest.

To properly repair, the hood, LH fender and windshield would need to be removed so that a proper patch can be welded in and smoothed out.

The cowl rust sucks, but is easily fixed. The car is nice enough that dealing with that spot wouldn't stop me from buying it.

Me either. BUT, is there any more damage. My TA hasn't been stored indoors, enough during it life. But does not have holes in it!!!

Console has a equalizer on the side of it..
Not an SE. This car is a base TA.
Bottom was Ice blasted
Car was prepped to capitalize on the " black paint" syndrome.
Its probably NOT worth what someone will pay for it.
Its not special enough to collect really. I would drive it if I owned it.

jhein 11-29-2022 04:50 PM

I'll stick my neck out and say I think it sells for north of 150K. And if it was a 4 spd I'd say 200K

I completely agree!!!

A couple less options on this car, a.nd it would be a "stripper" TA.

Hagerty shows a Base 1977 Trans Am in #1 condition valued at around $70K, and in #2 condition around $53K.

Yes, but in a auction situation that sort of valuation can go right out the window. Especially with a super low mile survivor.

TAKerry 12-01-2022 09:14 AM

I would bet my .05c that there is more underneath the hole in the cowell. Mine was worse than that and the entire bottom under the fender was gone. I agree the fender needs to come off and see whats going on there. Easy enough fix though.
As for hagerty, they are a good guide but one must keep in mind that a #1 car is as it sits on the dealership floor. Almost NO use on any component. Very few cars fit in this category. #2 would be what most of us call a trailer queen show car. Most cars that are out and about that we see at local shows and cruises are indeed nice cars but are #3 condition.
With the rust hole through, the cut up console and aftermarket radio this one is clearly a #3 at best.
Will be interesting to see what it goes for. As an owner of a black 77 I hope it hits the sky!!!
IF I were in the market I wouldnt spend more than about $40k on this one and thats only for the originality.

rbrtmchl 12-05-2022 04:50 PM

Sold today on BaT for $36,000.

jhein 12-05-2022 04:52 PM

Boy, I was way off on that one.
