1974 parts car

So, last fall I came across a '74 Firebird on the side of the road for sale. It had some parts on/in it with a card stating it had a 4.11:1 rear end. Another sign stated $2000. I drove off and a few weeks later it was gone. Earlier this fall it reappeared and after a month I finally saw signs of someone there and stopped. We struck a deal on a purchase price, figuring I will sell the rear to offset some of the cost of purchase. The intent was to save parts in case of an accident.

First up was the nose (header) piece. While it has a correct early casting number, it's been repaired and probably didn't originally come on this car.

Next was the front bumper. This was an unexpected piece as it was not with the car when the deal was made. First thing I thought was strange was, the bumperettes were removable. While I had heard that '74s may have received this style, I had never seen it.

Unfortunately, all the lighting accessories (turn signal, tail light and license plate lighting) were "smoke" treated. Looking into what to use to undo this. The real bonus was the lower valance as it's the same for '74 or '75. Found 2 Power Beam bulbs inside. Will have to test.

New clue as to what was what, is the core support. Looks like the front end was from a '75. Soon will the interior dash as things aren't right there either.

Car is a mess. Had a Chevy engine, which was why the previous owner purchased it. Most parts are OK replacement parts. Case in point is next.

Pulled the steering column as it was a tilt unit. Both levers were broken, but there are reproductions out there. Tried to figure out year and really can't. Why someone would take the ignition switch off a non-tilt column and make it work for a tilt is head shaking. Flasher knob looks like 1970.

is that a 1970 only style for the hazard?

I think '69 may have had the same knob. Earlier years, I think, were chrome. Dash pad and bezel look '70. Cluster was the original. Now I was thinking the 4.11:1 rear was a re-geared 10 bolt, but I'm now curious.

Mike,

Does it have seat belts? I need a set of black shoulder belts for my '74 Formula.

Rocky, there was little interior. There may be a rear seat outer there, but then again...

Thanks. I figured as much but it's worth a try.

I'm looking for the shoulder belts (original owner cut mine) and a really nice woodgrain instrument panel with A/C and one accessory switch.

Do you have the full jack assembly?

I do for my other cars. But wasn't anything in this car.
