Trunk latch color
Anybody know what the correct color is for the paint that is supposed to go on the trunk latch on a 67 GTO? Thanks.

Are you talking about the piece that attaches to the bottom of the decklid?
If so, in most cases those were painted body color because the cars were originally sprayed with the decklid on the car and aligned/assembled. Which is typical of door strikers too. Some cars may vary slightly depending on build date and assembly plant. |
Ames calls it the deck lid latch. The part the key goes in. I painted mine silver. Originally it was painted with splatter paint over blue paint(the color of my car). I have seen some that looked like they were painted light gold. Just trying to do simple things to increase the point total on my car for the gtoaa show.

I meant to say the part that's connected to the key lock, not the part connected to the bottom of the trunk lid.

I agree with Mr. Jones. Painted along with the car.

Ah ok that part. Yes that is painted along with the car. Those were installed on the decklid and the decklid on the car for final adjustment, then it was all painted as an assembly.
Many "restored" cars don't get that right (along with door strikers) so you'll see some cars with those parts plated and then installed after paint. |
Painted door strikers and door latches/retaining screws first came about on the 1968 models.

I painted mine silver too. I like it that way.

I think I'm just going to leave mine silver too.
