455 engine mounts
Any idea if better grade engine mounts might be made for the longer 455 frame mounts?

Maybe theyre better now but the mighty mounts from a few years ago i guess didnt fare well to spirited driving. The poly ones I guess have some fitment issues and dont like heat. I read where Ames here had a new/improved motor mount but only the smaller 400 and down mount. The mounts in my car now have been there for years and many launches. Would replace them if someone made a quality type original without going to a solid. I havent measured but I think ive still got a good 3/8" between oil pan and the steering link. Mounts for the longer 455 frame mount definitley arent as popular to the aftermarket

Motor Mounts
Just wanted to let members know the 'Torq Loc' mounts now being offered by Ames is a very stout piece. Just received mine for the 400 and they are much beefier in all aspects when compared to auto part stores variants. The stock long bolt will not work however, had to use the Dorman# 81101. Ames I think should offer this.. Read somewhere that these are just Anchor mounts with the name grinded off and a center bolt added. Not so. If you held them in your hand the weight difference alone (when compared to standard aftermarket) would tell you so. Paul

Just looked at the Torq-Loc mounts .... metal has got to be twice as thick as parts store options ... wish I had seen those before I put the cheapos on mine.

Ames reproduction mounts DO hold extremely tight tolerances between the steel frame side mounts and ears of the engine mounts. This is also present on the N.O.S. mounts. Though the mounts will nest on original frame mounts, we have discovered in the past that it is best to dress the ends of the N245B reproduction frame mounts due to some residual metal from the stamping process that can and will hinder the mounts from completely seating on the body of rubber engine mounts and providing necessary hole alignment to send the engine mount bolts home. We were unable to replicate any issue with the bolts that would require the Dorman bolts to be utilized in their place(s). Thank you, Ames Performance Team |
Revision on long bolt
I stand corrected. The factory long bolt WILL work. Apparently was using a long bolt from another application. Sorry Ames you were right, Paul

As these sound like maybe the best stock type mounts available,,,thats why I was hoping theyd make a 455 mount version. Havent heard of the greatest results about any of the others available . From problems of strength issues to having fitness issues of letting the engine sit too low.
