1980 trans am windshield washer motor
 

I have a1980 trans am turbo pace car

Question was the windshield washer motor black on the lower half of the round motor or was the motor all natural

The upper half of the motor is natural but I am not sure of what the lower half was from the factory

All images I see are lower black ????????????

Lower half of all the Delco round motors were extremely light gold Cad plated. Here is an NOS Delco motor from the era for reference:

I’ve only seen factory ones plated, rebuilt are painted, bingo there cam man. But there should be a silver decal on that case.

Would they have been plated something like an anodized black (or something that looks like a gun bluing)? Thats what the motor for my 79 looked like, pretty sure its original. Def not painted black.

Wouldn't think so, haven't seen it. Perhaps it was blackened and starting to thin like a used steering wheel. Most that are repainted alloy silver or black are simply to tidy them up after rebuild, or possible new end attached. They are hard to replate as have internal parts, magnets in that area.

So, the more I got to thinking about the wiper motor the more perplexed I became. Then it hit, my motor must have been original because it still had the date/product code sticker. Carefully scraping it away (the writing was worn off and I bought a new replacement) it revealed that it was def. a light gold coloured cladding on the lower half. Now back to the drawing board, gonna sand off the black I put on and try to replicate the gold as close as I can.
For the record, I got a replacement date code sticker from ECS and it looks fantastic, however the size is off of the original. The original is a bit shorter and wider than the new one.
