Torque Convertors
What brand convertors is everyone using for a street strip car?
1978 Trans Am TH350 Pontiac 455 with forged rods/pistons Heads ported to 250 cfm 9.5 compression Quadrajet carb 3.23:1 posi rear. |
I'm very happy with my custom 10" PTC. Flashes to 5000 yet still drives nice on the street.
TransSpecialty 9" converter in my 67 Firebird.
Redneck Racing 9.5", flashes to 5000 rpm and has 6.8% slip across the stripe.
TCS and flashes to 5000 rpm. I hear the PTC converters are the hot ticket..

Most widely used by the fastest Pontiac racers. Make awesome street converters as well. |
I have used and been happy with ATI and Dynamic.
PTC, call and ask for Lane.
Lane is the man. 9" PTC picked up .015 over a 8" TCI that was 400-500 $ more..
I've had great results with both BTE and FTI. Super consistent converters
Ive used Ultimate Converter Concepts (Lenny) 10" with great success. Changed combos, trying a brand new PTC 8" probably tonight if the weather holds.
Thanks Guys! I am going to give PTC a call today.
Talked to Lane at PTC, in about four weeks I should have a torque convertor.

If and when you get the converter installed, can you post some feedback. Much appreciated. |
Took my car out last night with the new PTC converter. It scared me, I almost peed a little, and the car gets wheelie bars. Holy cow.

I will post some feedback when I get it installed. Motor should be back in a few weeks so we will see if I get it all together before the snow flies. |
