'58 Rear Motor Mount
1 Attachment(s)
Wondering if anybody has a source or stash of rear motor mounts for a '58. These are the ones that bolt to the bell housing. Looks similar to the one below.
I think CPR might have some but I've never actually bought from them. Any opinions on that route? |
I've always had good luck with CPR, give them a call.

From CPR's website:
C529880RP 1958 Motor Mount, Rear, All, LH $37.95/ea C529879RP 1958 Motor Mount, Rear, All, RH $37.95/ea I bought 1955 motor mounts from them, and they are nice quality. |
I've got a set of new ones from my 57 I believe they are the same.
Let me no if interested, I'm in Mich. GT. |

I think he's right... All the stuff I'm seeing is 55-57. 58 is always listed separately. Thanks though.
|
Do you have the old mounts? One of the reproduction rubber companies would remolded your old ones. I don't remember if it was STEELE or one of the others.
|
Problem is that this is my daily driver. Whatever job I start on Friday afternoon, I have to have wrapped up by Monday morning to get to work.
|
Still looking. CPR let me order them before sending me an email that said they are discontinued (but would re-vulcanize them for double the price of the parts for sale on the website.)
But again, I can't have it out of service for the 3 weeks they say it will take. |

Kanter is showing them, see this link. Expensive for right side and exchange only. I checked Ames and they don't list them.
Difference in 1955-57 and 1958 mounts is in location of holes in upper part that attaches to the transmission or bell housing. I've seen them with holes drilled for both allowing them to be used on 1955-58. |

I've attached overlaid drawings of the 55-57 mounts and the 58 mounts. These drawings are from the Shop Manuals (57 & 58), 57 in red and 58 in black. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...6&d=1479053007 |
After looking at some photos, I think I may have that backwards, I now believe the holes in 58 mounts are further apart than the holes in 57 mounts. That would probably prevent drilling 55-57 mounts to fit 58.

Any chance '55-57 Chev rear mounts could work or be made to work? The general configuration looks it might be the same as Pontiac.
I've got a pair of rear mounts in a drawer (used but like new) that don't show any part numbers. They look just like the Chevy mount in the picture, except that the lower metal flange is in the same plane as the upper piece, instead of being at 90 degrees. Anybody know what they might be? I thought they were remnants of my putting early Pontiac engines into a couple of '57 Chevies, but I don't know (that was over 50 years ago!). Bill Hanlon- perhaps Pontiac in GMC? Or maybe '55-56 Pontiac? |
Thanks for putting in some brain power on this for me everyone.
I did see that one on e-bay, and maybe I should get it while it's out there. The fact that Kanter want's $175 for the right hand side (exchange) seems a bit like gouging to me. CPR said they would re-vulcanize them for me for $140. That might be an option, but I just need to figure out how to make that work being a driver. I really need to get my 66 up and running I guess. |

Anyone ever look at the oldsmobile mounts? Or have a drawing to compare like Larry did above? Might still need to be re-drilled, but it looks pretty close.
|
Teej, did you use the Oldsmobile mounts?
