Spray Foam For Shipping?
 

I'm sure a lot of you guys also ship things. When you are shipping something large and quite fragile do you ever use spray foam to package it? If so, what do you use?

I've got a fairing from an old Harley shovelhead that I am going to sell and I am willing to offer shipping. So far, this is the only idea I have had that may allow shipping without damage.

This is a good idea & I have received several fragile parts over the years that were packaged in this way!

A couple of obvious things to keep in mind when doing it :

Wrap the part in shrink wrap or some kind of plastic so the expandable foam does not touch it or your buyer will have a hell of a time getting it off. The other is ....fill the cavity a little bit at a time. Expandable foam will BREAK things if pumped into a cavity that is too small to allow it to expand. The stuff in the red & yellow spray can works great (sorry can't remember the name.

Have the Buyer arrange the shipping
 

Have the Buyer choose the shipper
and have the Buyer make the necessary arrangements for shipping.

Recommend the Buyer purchase insurance
at a minimum of 200% market replacement
value ( including shipping ).

Offer to take the item to the closest UPS
store for them to package it for safe shipping
according to their standards.

The Buyer doesn’t have to ship via UPS
but the UPS store is responsible for
packaging the item - not you.

This way - you are not involved in shipping
or insurance claims.

You are selling an item - not the shipping of
an item - your sales listing should state
“ for local pickup “ but include as a courtesy
your willingness to assist the Buyer by
taking the item to a location of their choice
within a reasonable distance of where
you are located.

Yes I’ve done this when shipping jet ski engines it’s a great way to ship them . The old grocery store plastic bags worked well for filling w foam
But those are gone around here . Now I just cut up foam board and pack it around the parts
