67 GTO fuel sender ground wire

good day, is there a proper location for the ground wire for the fuel level sensor at/near the tank?

I am not 100% sure mine is correct but the ground wire is secured to the trunk brace just in front of the passenger side tank strap. Sorry for the blurry picture. I just went out to he shop and crawled under my car with my cell phone. After a few guesses I got this shot.

Not sure if it's different between 1966 and 67 (or assembly plants), but on my Pontiac, MI built 66, the ground wire is on the driver side trunk brace. See attached photo from before my restoration began.

Pontiac definitely wasn't too worried about the sender ground and both photos are showing the correct location (although I would clean down to bare steel on the brace to insure that the wire is actually grounding). The big O-ring sealing the sender to the tank effectively isolates it and the ground wire is necessary for the sending unit to work.
