Drag link rebuildable?
 

I think I already know the answer, but I just want to confirm that my center/drag link cannot be rebuilt and reused. There are, or at least were, places that could rebuild them. I had a center link for my '61 Bonneville rebuilt probably 25 years ago by a guy who used to advertise in the Smoke Signals magazine, but I think he retired long ago. There still may be people who can do the work out there someplace.

Just a quick update in case anyone else needs to replace their drag/center link in the future. I ended up buying a replacement made by ProForged. I would have gone with Moog like I did with the tie rods, but I couldn't find a Moog drag link for a '66 GTO anywhere. In any regard, I did lots of research on ProForged, and everything I read about them was highly positive. I don't think I saw a single bad word written about them after combing through years of car forums all over the web. If I ever have an issue, it has a lifetime warranty.

The shape/fitment appears to be correct when compared to the original drag link which came off my car. Only appreciable difference is the zerk fittings are located on the side rather than the bottom, if you are concerned with that degree of originality (which I am not).

I haven't heard of ProForged before, but that's good to know. I checked to see what they have for 1961 full size cars and it's pretty limited - just tie rod ends and upper ball joints, but having a source for any parts is always good.

Yeah, from what I read, everyone has been very pleased with ProForged parts, even after putting a lot of miles on them. Their ball joints are also widely used in many of the tubular control arms that are on the market for A-body guys. Seems like solid stuff, and their prices are good, too.

Yep, that's what I'm hearing more and more. They make good stuff. I also noticed last night that the ball joints in my UMI tubular control arms are ProForged units. Knowing that UMI makes high quality products, if they trust ProForged enough to include them in their suspension kits, I can rest assured.

Rare parts prices are through the roof anymore...

Reviving an old thread....After reading this thread I remember when I installed my then new UMI control arms with longer upper ball joint it was a Proforged ball joint. Point here is I looked into ProForged steering linkage and decided to order a complete kit. I received it today and have to say from the loks of all the parts they look clean and quality. I haven't put them on yet so if anybody is interested I will report back after installation. Again they look great!

Thanks for sharing. Everything that I've received from ProForged seems quality, and I expect that view to be upheld after my car is back together and has some miles on the clock.

bringing back form the dead i just recieved one of these pro forged center links 106-10103 for a 66 bonneville
and it does not have the studs/(ball joints) in them can i buy these separately

I put a proforged one in my '65 but I am curious as to what is involved in rebuilding one - anyone DIY this before?

I did rebuild my 1967 GTO center link. Haven't installed it yet but my friend (gto4ben) has done several with tremendous success. He says they are better than original.
