Remflex Gaskets On a Restored Car
 

Was considering remflex gaskets on factory round port manifolds and was wondering if they would look incorrect on a restored car or show much when installed?

They will show,they are thick.Tom

The motor was rebuilt and broken in for a few hours with full exhaust attached. It had new steel gaskets installed when assembled and didn’t sound like there was a leak but when I pulled the manifolds off for some detailing , the steel gaskets looked like they had some exhaust getting by. I’m going to check them for warpage.

They won't look stock but they will not leak either.

I used Remflex on a set of original RA II exhaust manifolds I found. I did not want to risk exhaust leaks from a 50+ year old set of manifolds. I did trim the gasket to make it less noticeable. See pics.

Idk how thick the hylomar hi temp is but I use hylomar on al my gaskets it’s amazing because it’s non setting, it’s thin and very unnoticeable. I haven’t used it in exhaust situations because I usually use no gasket and just use copper RTV because I learned that w turbo headers was the best solution and have always stuck with it for that application.
Maybe you could copper rtv it on each side of metal and keep it from showing IDK. I have had to remove headers w a hammer before because the copper seal rtv had bonded so well to the head.

Could try this but have no experience with it the hylomar M is amazing though. Best gasket sealant I’ve ever used.

High temp RTV on the steel gaskets will seal any leaks as long as you own the car. It doesn't have to be the copper RTV, any color RTV will do it.

I.E. I put Hooker headers on a second gen T/A, 455 in 1988 with RTV on the header gaskets, they haven't ever leaked, or blown out. The headers will most likely rust apart before it needs gaskets.

Let the RTV tack up for 20-30 minutes before you assemble them, you'll be set until you decide to take it apart.
