Carter AFB Detail

CAn someone post a picture of a Carter AFB showing the color of the airhorn screws and linkage levers, rods? I'm restoring one for '62 Pontiac, and would like to get it right.

Will post pictures after I finish it. With your help, I'll do it right.

Those components were clear cadmium which is bright silver when fresh plated but dull to gray as they oxidize. From what I can see the steel components in your picture look to be cad plated. OSHA has run a lot of the cad platers off shore because of the chemicals involved but there are still lots of them around in some sreas and we have plenty of them down here along the Texas coast due to the off shore drilling industry; cadmium resists salt spray etc. really well. If you need a cad plater pm me and I will connect you with mine. They accept shipped in work and they ship back. They have a $90 minimum so it behooves you to send them components for ten carbs at least. They also dip aluminum in alodine which looks close to the original dark gray finish NOS AFBs were IMO. Not dead on but close.

What the heck the plater I use is Delta Specialty Coatings in Houston, Texas here is their website.

If you notice that a fellow named Mike Reeder is the CEO he and I are not related our having the same last name is pure coincidence.

Very little color besides cad plated levers, but some appear to have been gold cad plated. This happens with cad or yellow zinc. I have some NOS Rochester carbs which faded like this. When disassembled, the areas not exposed to atmosphere show the gold color.

Thank you for sharing. Now, I can get this one done. ,
