Fast Idle when cold question.
 

I know I asked this question before. Whenever I start my GTO cold, it wants to Idle at 3,000 rpm. Still not sure why.

When I start the car I move this linkage to bring the Idle down. Until it warms up. This is not the fix. But it works for now until I figure it out.

Could this be stuck? It does stick a little.

I am at a loss.

Any help would be great.

The linkage for that cam on the 1966 carb is controlled by parts on the other side of the carb on a 1966 Tri-Power.

Since you are on the Great lakes area, I would send the carb to Dick B and haver him make sure all of the parts
on the center carb and choke system are free to move and are adjusted properly. Dick is a very good Tri-Power Guy.

Kenth is correct. You can also adjust the amount that the choke pull-off diaphragm opens the choke on startup. When the diaphragm is fully retracted, the choke should be pulled open to about 3/16". To achieve this gap, bend the small link rod on the passenger side to change the gap. It would be wise to check the pull-off diaphragm to see that it is working, also. When the engine is idling, the metal tab on the diaphragm should be pulled fully inward.

When cold starting your car, the fast idle should be around 2000 rpm. A quick tap on the pedal should drop this immediately to a lower rpm.

Which way would you bend the tang in the pic. to increase speed ?

Bend the tang downward to increase fast idle speed. There is a limited amount of adjustment, however, by bending that tang.
