Yup.

It also works on Camaros that use the same style soft vinyl padded console - which I believe was 1972-1981.
The later GM service replacement lids were made of a hard plastic - just an FYI.

And about the triple post;
I believe most people who frequent here will hit either the "new posts" or "today's posts" links - so there is really is no need to post this in three locations.

If you frequent one forum because your car fits that one, by all means post it there and let it ride.

Have a friend that has 2 nos boxes & a bunch of the hard plastic lids sealed in the bags , just wanted to make sure on the application before unloading them . Thanks

Hard to find part, (nOS), they used to be like 35$. I put one in the car, I don’t open it. The hinge breaks easily, and one to store away for a rainy day.
The lid is even harder to find, used to be like $100. In black only, both the box and the lid were out for a while.

i think the hinges on the console boxes do wear out over time, but i haven't ever had a hard time finding good used one;
the same plastic "hinge" is used on the dash-glovebox...

the lids are a bit harder to find, but i think they only wear out when constantly being leaned on or something;
i suspect that the console box and dash-glovebox lids wear out faster when they are being handled roughly.

I've had my car for twenty-six years, and am still using the same console box and soft padded lid.
I currently have a couple spares of each...

Maybe they wear out faster in regions that see higher summer temperatures(?).

You have a couple of 70-72 lids?

unruhjonny 05-21-2021 11:32 AM

lol

I sold my spare mint one a while back.
I now have one "driver" (faded) and one NOS, both of which I planned on keeping.

burd 05-21-2021 11:44 AM

And you gotta have correct bolts. So many I’ve seen put hardware store screws in.
Do t forget about the button and spring too.

unruhjonny 05-21-2021 11:47 AM

yup seen that too.

I actually recently got a lid where the soft top was peeling off one side;
I right now have it wrapped tight in proper shape, and will be using some heavy duty adhesive to glue it back right.

IIRC it's a dark blue lid.

70-72 lids are not molded they are covered. Not to question you but I doubt you have a true 70-72 lid. Would love to see pictures of it.

I have understood that the OE parts for the console, except for the front pocket, and later auto shifter plates, are the same from 1970-1979 or when the electronics for the 1980's distributor first came in.

I have understood that means the vinyl pattern for the console is the same throughout, and the lids were unchanged in how they were made, and the pattern.
I have seen, several sloppily covered console lids.

I also understood that the lids later on became a one piece hard molded piece.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Here’s the tag from the OG

Norwood 05-24-2021 03:34 PM

I already did

Norwood 05-24-2021 03:38 PM

Parts are superseded. Example by part number a black formula steering wheel from a 1979 Is the same part number as a 70 IC wheel but they are far from being the same.

burd 05-24-2021 03:39 PM

I don’t see your tag you posted.
That label is from the late 80’s. Is USA a town in China?

Never mentioned they are padded , question says molded.

Norwood 05-25-2021 07:53 AM

The statement is directed toward Jonny. Describing the lids from 70-72 are not molded and are vinyl covered with a grain pattern matching the early dash. These are very rare indeed to find in good condition let alone NOS.
