High bolster seats
 

Who has done the high foam seats with OEM patterns? I'm wondering how people like them and what brand they are. I thought this uses the oem seat frame.

Any info would be appreciated

Legendary Auto Interiors sells what they refer to as "Rallye" bucket seat foam kits that have higher side bolsters than stock, but using the OEM style upholstery pattern. Still uses the original/factory seat frame. That would be the way I'd go if I were considering high bolsters. They sell very high quality products, and have good customer service if you ever need help.

While not the high bolsters like pictured, i wanted to use the stock seat covers but added extra side bolster springs. In the pics, the blue tape shows the springs I added, 4 to the upper frame and 4 to the bottom. Though I'm going the stock route for my car, I'm curious to see how 70GS455's plan works out, too. In particular, whether the stock seat covers will have enough material to allow him to raise the bolsters as he sets out to do.

Yeah, I don't think he's making the sides and different in shape, he's just adding a few spring on the sides.

Right, but the seat cover will still need to be hog-ringed to the same location despite the increase in bolster height. If you increase the bolster height, there is the risk that the seat covers will not extend down far enough to allow for hog-ringing in the correct location. It just depends on how much leeway the seat covers provide, since you're essentially asking them to grow in size without providing any extra material. Perhaps it will be fine, but that's the aspect that I'm curious about nonetheless.

He's not changing the bolster heights. All he's doing is adding springs to the side to make them stiffer. They are the same height.

Ah, I see. For some reason I assumed that he was trying to accomplish higher bolsters like the OP is, but using a different approach.

Its not supposed to be any higher, maybe 1/4" if so. I did consider the effort getting the material on. It is slightly harder compressing the springs, but not greatly. So i should still be able to get the upholstery on and have a good tight fit, will just need some extra effort compressing the springs

Thought about doing something similar on mine, but when I got the replacement seat springs they were heavier gauge and a bit stiffer than stock already.

I did the legendary Rallye seats in my 69 Charger. Very high quality and easy to install. Much better than the factory seats, but then again the Mopar seats were very flat and had no contour.

I plan on doing the Rallye seats on my 70 GTO as I was pretty happy with them.

An update...

Went to place the order for these (Rallye seat kit) and I've learned they are 45 WEEKS out. I had to email them back to make sure it wasn't a typo, it wasn't. Now I need to decide if I want to wait a year or go another route.

I wanted to get custom made seat trims from Legendary back in December. Nine months wait. I went with stock and even then I had to use different suppliers for front and rear. I do it again in a couple years when things get back to normal.

Yep, from what I've heard lately, all of the auto upholstery companies have a huge backlog of orders to fulfill. Wait times tend to be significantly longer if you are seeking a color other than black, too. With that in mind, you might as well just get your order on the books with Legendary now. If you find another option that you like in the meantime, you can always cancel your order with Legendary.

For what it's worth, when I ordered rear door panels from Legendary last August, they told me it would probably be a 6 month wait, but they arrived in under half that amount of time, IIRC. It's possible that the time estimate they gave you is a worst case scenario.

Good points and will probably just go ahead and get them ordered. I don't really need to replace the seat covers I have, more to keep me from sliding off of them in the turns haha.

The TMI foam/covers that fit on stock frames are much firmer than original and raise the seating position which some people like but can be a problem for tall people. Have done several year Camaros where they use the same pattern insert as original but reshaped.

I'm dissapointed in the Legendary covers I installed after my post above. Deluxe interior, new ACI foam, looks stock, but just not comfortable like I want.

Legendary is not as good as they used to be judging by the product I received this year. Appearance is good, but the panels are not cut and sewn uniformly. The listings were also too short to make the pleats correctly and had to use Corvette hog rings to avoid stretching the material to far in the pleats. Due to availability, I had to buy PUI for the rear, and the fit was quite nice. I'll give the nod to PUI this time.

This week I picked up 2 '97 T/A seats and I'll sew the new trims myself this winter, the only way I'll be happy. Didn't want to spend that much time last summer and not drive the car. Dimensionally the '97 seats are the same as the originals. I got samples of Comfortweave, Madrid, perforated, and faux leather. I'll probably do the perforated and faux leather and build the T/A seats without the headrests, trim the bolsters a little bit and eliminate most of the hard plastic. I'll redo the back seat with some small side and center bolsters for appearance, even thought of going with 2nd gen style separate bottoms and extending the console to the rear.
