1974 vinyl top verification

I started the question on the introduction forum so its time to move over here. My very weathered '74 Trans am had a vinyl top when I bought it in 1995 and now decades later its time to finally get the car back on the road.

I posted the question whether this car had a factory top, and from member's answers it looks like that it isn't, and that's ok with me.

Got this from Baron Von Zeppelin:

-29 - 29 PNT is the lower and upper paint / trim codes
So it was painted dark blue complete.
Vinyl top car would read 29 - A or 29 - B for examples

Factory vinyl top cars will always need some additional body work at the roof-to-quarter panel seams to get them smoothed out enough for decent looking repaint.

I had a dark blue 74 firebird in the mid 80's with white vinyl top and interior.
Removed the top and prepped it for a solid repaint.
2nd gear went out and I parked it before I got around to painting it, then eventually sold it.-

I'll take as much information as I can get on this, if it was a stock vinyl top car I'll put it back on, if not its not going on.

As BVZ said on the cowltag, the PHS would have an option that reads:
CORDOVA TOP 87.00 C08 67.86

:)

That just made my day!

what all did that high country option consist of? any ideas?

No clue yet but I will guess the carb and ignition settings were the only difference. When I drove my ‘70 GTO from Cali to Nebraska a few times, when I would get into the mountains it would start flooding until I went downhill coasting and cleared it out.

"WT5 was available for all models exc. GP. The option included leaner carburetor settings and higher axle ratios for better performance at high altitudes."

Check out a dealer album, they have vinyl top samples in them.

It won’t be going back on, I didn’t care for it but would have kept it if it was an original option. The wheel spoilers might not even go back on considering how many parts are missing.

I've noticed that on 70-74's......the front and back edges of the tops were actually pinned to the same surface as the trim clips are attached.

I believe they were pneumatically driven tacks...so unless they were removed and filled....there should be some evidence/holes there..
