any ballers here...

Boyhood dream #2 has always been that coast to coast "race" however the runs these days look more like a luxury jaunt with douchee supercars.

Anyone ever entertained one of these events in their pontipig?

Just curious...

nope. That shows 7- days. My expectations for that is under 24 hours.

vertigto 07-18-2022 02:11 PM

Someday I might consider trying a 'down-the-coast' run as you've listed, but probably not a 'east/west coast' run.

kingbuzzo 07-18-2022 03:14 PM

These seem to be growing in popularity so the options are more abundant.

I met up with the Bandit Run in SD a few years ago and it was a lot of fun.

Unfortunately my T/A in her current state would take at least seven days to run across state lines...lol not lol

The dream continues...

I like the Hemmings race where its more 'Ralley' than all out racing.

I drove straight from Edmonton to Toronto back in '86. 1800 miles and about 40 hours, in my trusty 1974 Duster with the slant 6.

I don't know if I could do that today.

~Feb 1987 flew from Phila to Daytona to buy& drive a 68 428 GTO back, no heater! Made it.

1993 Spring break drove with a buddy in his Slant-6 Convertible, Pa-to-Daytona , no heater again! Made it.

In 1979 driving my 67 GTO, along with two friends "on a dare" and with one friends promise of paying any tickets... made it from North Idaho (almost the Canadian border) to downtown Tacoma Washington in 3 hours 47 minutes- that according to my friend , I remember 4 hours and 17 minutes.
National 55 MPH limit was also law at the time IIRC .

Ran the 400 so hard the fuel pump ripped the threads out of the front cover. 418 miles (according to Google maps) including gas stops and fixing the pump problem.
Luckily we had metal thread tape and were able to reattach the fuel pump.

Not something I would do today.

Very expensive undertaking.. you will need several pieces of electronics and a solid fund for bail, not to mention possibly losing the car to the courts..
Most of the people doing it are very wealthy hence the super cars...and can handle the hit.. they can afford a driver after the get out of jail and lose their license for a year..lol
I've had my CTS-V to 190mph on a local highway.. sold it 3 weeks later. I was gonna end up in jail.

when the Covids were at their shutdown peak, the Coast to Coast record was reset multiple times, and the likelihood of it being broken again is not great.

kingbuzzo 07-19-2022 12:14 PM

I'm not interested in breaking any records altho Rawlings bragged he won in '05.

I just think the journey would be so cool.

Someday...if/when I get an overdrive...maybe...lol

This is the one to watch.

The amount of money, planning, and time invested into one of these attempts is truly amazing.

Sounds more like a cruise to me. Drummed up by some people with buddies in the Hotel business. And people who want to party each night.

At one point, many years ago, a friend of my uncle used to do the Airstream Caravans tours.
Basically it was a bunch of rich people hanging together each night, before bed, in the western states and seeing the sights.
They did this deal for at least 12 years, I delivered 3 Fleetwood Cadillac vehicles (over the years) to them to pull the Airstream.

This sounds more like the same but without the Airstreams.

I’ve always been intrigued by films like Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, Vanishing Point, Deathproof, Two Lane Blacktop, Gumball Rally, etc. I used to want to do one sooo bad! Now I’m 62 and obeying the law (most of the time [emoji6]) is important to me. These days something like the Power Tour sounds like a lot of fun. It’s the camaraderie of the gearheads and driving with cars that I can relate to that’s important. Those exotic car guys, they’re not much fun to hang around with but their gold digging girlfriends are fun to look at. [emoji1787][emoji6]

Haha keep rockin man...

They were playing at Madison WI last week when I took the kids to the Dells - I was really tempted to go to that show - he isn't getting any younger... :(

I'm guessing there are more musicians on this forum...myself included. Much more gear than I need...actually gave my Tele to my nephew who was showing some interest. Didn't make much of a dent in the inventory though.

kingbuzzo 07-21-2022 05:23 PM

gotta hand over that torch...I've dabbled but wouldn't call myself a musician. Once I discovered the gals in my teens the old Hondo just gathered dust lol...still have it however
