My original steering wheel

Hi group
I got my original steering wheel restored for my formula. It looks good. My car had a vinyle wrap and I thought it was stock since we bought car with it wrapped. But here it is. What you guys think? This is my original wheel redone. It's a 1970 steering wheel with no big or little ic stamp the Injection point proves that. So technically blanks probably ran throughout 73. Next is sending Formulabruce my hub!

Don’t really know anything about this years wheels but it looks nice to me.

Looks great. I do have to comment about the spokes. Should be black. I’ve seen many high dollar restorations recently which have Formula wheels with silver or bare metal spokes. These cars never had silver spokes, as all were black anodized. Gold spokes showed up sometime around the black and gold special edition cars of the late 70s but I am no expert on that period. So please people black spokes only on 70-73 cars (if you are aiming for originality).

I think with no IC stamp and that big mold hole mark it may technically be a 1973 fat wheel.

Can I ask who did the restoration? And yes spokes should be black (but maybe it is the photo). I have yet to find anyone to get that "paint" done right to look like original anodizing. Hopefully the wheel still retains the black colored spokes and you will be all set!

My wheel is a true 1970 wheel. Hear is a pic of an engraved ic wheel the hole is in the same spot. The 73 is slightly higher.

Mold Injection hole

Im.no expert but learning. The mold injection hole was moved outward starting with the little ic stamp I think and probably continued through the 73 version but im.no expert just guessing. Here is a puc of a little ic stamp that's also found on 70-72. Then a 73. The mold injection hole is not in same place as mine but the big ic wheel is. Like I said they did have blanks in 70. Mine is proof.

And my spokes are faided black but that's ok. The black doesn't look like paint thou.

The spokes in these close up shots look right. For some reason that first picture in the first thread entry looks very “silver”.

They would appear even lighter with a darker background.

Since I've received a few PMs from interested members, I just wanted to note that the Keith K who restored Ramairnacho's steering wheel was not me :)

Injection point

I guess the 1970 had a different mold injection hole. Here is a clear pic of it and no engraved ic. The little ic I think was a different mold. Does anyone know what ic stands for? Where both big and little plus blank.used in 1970?

65madgoat 12-05-2023 11:36 PM

Here is what I gathered and have seen on original cars:

Capital IC stamp in 1970
Small ic stamp in 1971
icx stamp in 1972 (saw a mint original one this weekend and offered the guy $800 to no avail)
no stamp just mold hole mark in 1973

And never could get a hold of Kieth Kinowski.... any number? PM if so.
